Great options and service! But needs a vegan roast dinner option!

Came here on quite a busy Sunday looking for a drink and some food-initially we were told that we wouldn’t be able to get food until around 7pm if we didn’t have a booking, but they were lovely enough to move some things around for us and we were able to order food- we were very grateful for this!! There are some good vegan options, I went for the lasagne and it definitely came out vegan- as I know there were some reviews that’s stated it had come out as not vegan. It was really tasty and good value for money with some chips added too. The only thing I’d say is I wish there were some vegan options on the Sunday roast menu as it doesn’t match how vegan friendly the main menu is😒I haven’t had a roast dinner out in years!

Better than reviews suggest

I wonder if previous reviews were from a time when they had a different manager/chef.

I have eaten at The Bitter End twice and enjoyed both occasions.

There’s plenty vegan or veggie options.

Pros: Good food, Friendly service, Great beer options

Cons: A little on the pricey side

Don't be fooled by vegan/vegetarian menu

Not vegan friendly. Confirmed 3 times that lasagne was vegan. It arrived with what was clearly dairy cheese on it. Asked again and was told, 'oh yes actually it's not vegan but we can replace it for you'. Then it transpired that the garlic bread was also not vegan.. did eventually get some very average lasagne but was offered no replacement for the garlic bread or money back.

Pros: Food edible

Cons: See above

Wouldn’t recommend

Vegan choices sold out before restaurant opens is not ideal

Pros: Wasn’t busy

Cons: Poor choice, Food looked and tasted premade, Poor value

Not great

Went here because there are few vegan-friendly places in Cockermouth and this place got good reviews on Tripadvisor. I went for a bespoke option because I fancied chips and mushy peas. Instead of the fish, I had falafel. These were fine although clearly out of a packet. I told staff I was vegan, which led them to check whether I still wanted the mushy peas despite the fact that the tin said they were only vegetarian (!). I said I'd take the risk but that didn't stop them giving me a mayonnaise dip to go with the falafel. Very strange. Chips weren't bad but, overall, not a great meal experience. Beers were nice though...

Pros: Vegan options clearly marked

Cons: Basic pub fare
