I have frequented this basement bar for many years, and it's a great spot. I would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a pint with friends.
However, I can't say the same for the food. I'm tired of places where the only vegan options are just the regular menu items minus the cheese or meat. It's 2024, and yet some places still think vegetable fajitas are sufficient. There should be options like tofu, tempeh, or plant-based meats as standard.
The service was good, and the food was edible, but the lack of effort in providing diverse vegan options is disappointing.
You are paying the same price for food minus the dairy and protein, really!

Really poor value for money, portions too small - Edit
Service was really slow with about 2 waiters for the whole restaurant it seemed, on a very busy Tuesday night. Friend had taco Tuesday deal (3 tacos for price of 2) I thought it was too much, but it was too little (each taco plate 12.50, 10 and 8, equalling 30£) as he still wasn't full. Portions were really small for main size prices. Not worth it.

Absolutely amazing vegan Mexican food - got nachos, tacos and a quesadilla to share with my friend and we lived it. The margaritas are yummy too

I wanted somewhere for drinks near St James' Quarter for my daughter's birthday, so booked The Basement. She knew the place and was happy to go there. It's a Mexican themed bar, with a great menu catering for every dietary requirement; she's gf and vegetarian, I'm vegan...no problem at all. We were so happy that we could both eat the churros, and oh my word, they were good!

Good vibes - I'm going back soon!
