A Spartan Attitude - Edit
Following one of the longest flights of my life, both literally and figuratively, and a run-in with a ‘charming’ car rental company – they've always got your best interest at heart – I was in dire need of pure, unadulterated, filthy goodness. In what must have been divine intervention after firing up a long idle delivery app, this place flashed up at the top of my plant-based search. Needing no further reason to look elsewhere, I dutifully placed a delightfully devilish order and eagerly awaited heavenly satisfaction.
Read moreRavaged by hunger and approaching a state of delirium due to exhaustion, I completely disregarded any notion of courses and proceeded to eat whatever I pulled out of the bag first. Hence, what should have been dessert – the brownie – became a sweet, sumptuous starter. Though mildly insane, in terms of quality, it was fantastic. Texturally on-point, possessing decent moisture, and great flavour, I’ve certainly fallen foul of much worse bakes of this ilk.
Chaos, it seemed, was bound to reign throughout this meal. If the unconventional appetiser wasn’t proof enough of this, when faced with the gyro bowl and a distinct lack of cutlery, there was zero hesitation in cramming the contents into my mouth fistfuls at a time. This unique approach didn’t diminish my enjoyment of what was a thoroughly well-composed pot of wonderfulness.
Of course, hands were still very much the order of the day for the remaining morsels, and, again, they were all excellent. The oregano fries were salty and crisp; the pair of deep-fried bites were both as delicious as they were distinct; and the crowning glory of the festivities – the gyros – were jam-packed and as gloriously sinful as I could have wished for.
I’m positive that I’ve had better sustenance than this, but in the moment, given the circumstances, it was hard to remember when. Even removing the caveat of my animalistic desire to consume from the equation, I would still rate this very highly and would have little issue repeating the experience anytime.
