Mitton Rd, Whalley, Clitheroe, England, BB7 9PQ

Serves meat, vegan options available. This gastro pub introduced a monthly changing vegan menu, as the main menu changes -- you need to ask for it. Generally has 2 each of starters, mains, and desserts. Example dishes might be tempura vegetables with chilli sauce, risotto, beetroot carpaccio, quinoa salad, Asian tofu salad, sweet potato and chickpea tagine, sorbet. Open Mon-Sat 12:00pm-10:00pm, Sun 12:00pm-9:30pm.

hardly no options, not accommodating - Edit

We chose the aspinall because of the good reviews and the statement on happy cow saying you just need to ask for the vegan menu. I’m not usually one to leave a bad review but I wouldn’t want someone else to chose this place over better options in the area. They didn’t have a separate vegan menu even though we rang before going to make sure they did. They basically had two vegan options on the menu. One mushroom risotto which was ok and a Japanese ramen which was awful. To say they had thought about vegans they didn’t even have dairy free milk for a coffee afterwards and couldn’t offer anything. The pub itself is a nice building but the menu, food and service wasn’t good at all.

a great find - Edit

I really appreciated having a whole vegan menu to choose from! Perhaps it was snobbish of me to be surprised as the ribble valley had such an amazing reputation for food.

I did have to ask for the vegan menu but it was readily supplied.

Tempura veg were scrumptious, the pea risotto wasn't very creamy and i think it wasn't risotto rice but it was a beautiful location and excellent service so i was very happy!

Pros: options! 2x choices and 3x courses, beautiful location, friendly helpful staff

Cons: make sure to ask for vegan menu (not really a con)

Vegan Menu Available - Edit

The Aspinall Arms introduced a vegan menu last year and I have eaten there several times. Usually two/three starters, mains and two desserts available, some of the dishes are of Asian/Thai influence as the chef has a background cooking this kind of food. However things have gone downhill of late which I think coincides with a change in chef/management. The menu does not change as regularly as it used to. Out of three main courses two were salads of kale and quinoa or orange and fennel (the accompaniments to one of the chicken dishes). The other was Thai curry which I have had umpteen times. If you are dining with friends having just a salad is not acceptable and gives the impression that is all that vegans eat.. Will not be going back until the vegan options are much more creative, especially with new vegan menus being introduced at two places just down the road.

Pros: Vegan Menu, Vegan wines on the list if you know what they are

Cons: Vegan options have been downgraded, Vegan wines are not labelled
