NOT DISABILITY FRIENDLY - Edit
I visited The Angel (14/10/20) with the vision of having some vegan food in a friendly, welcoming and chilled environment with my daughter.
Read moreUpon entering I was very abruptly and rudely told I “had to put a mask on” I informed the member of staff
I am ‘medically exempt’ to which I was informed the only way I could enter the establishment to eat is if I had a card stating I was exempt and was to wear it through my visit!?!
In a bid to defend my right as a disabled person who for medical reasons can’t where a mask, i entered in to a debate with a hostile and ignorant member of staff, who in front of costumers, insensitivity asked me to state what my medical condition is that prevents me from wearing a mask and numerous times stated I either had to present and wear a card saying I am disabled/exempt or wear a mask.
When I entered The Angel the said member of staff was using a laptop at a table, I kindly asked her check the gov.uk website with reguards the polices/rules around mask a wearing, to which she declined stating she was already familiar with it and continued to state numerous inaccuracies: “there is an application form to apply for an exception card on the gov.uk website” (incorrect) and I have to state my disability, presumably so the doctor/barista can ratify that the disability qualifies exemptment (obviously again incorrect )
I appreciate these are very challenging times, the advice the government is giving changes daily and it’s hard to keep up, I also appreciate that it’s a scary time, and people want this all to end and life to return to what was normal pre covid and for some people its frustrating that some individuals don’t wear masks (some maybe even flouting the rules, I except that) but no one has the right to challenge an individual with such ferocity and tenacity, that basically translates as “I don’t believe a word your saying”
The staff at The Angel are evidently not trained in disability awareness, and don’t exercise inclusiveness or empathy and exhibit prejudicial and tyrannical traits.
I left feeling very incredible frustrated, angry, powerless, incredibly embarrassed and with my dignity stripped from me in front of my 10 year old daughter and humiliated in front of costumers.
An absolutely horrendous experience, that’s left me feeling confused and apprehensive about visiting other places (without a mask, as unfortunately is the case for me)

A firm favourite - Edit
I have loved it every time I have visited. They have a separate vegan menu where lots of pub classics are veganised. The vegan fish and chips is a favourite. The pies are also gorgeous. Half price offer on Wednesdays!

Good pub grub - Edit
This is a sweet little pub with a great selection of ales and beers that are usually labelled for vegans. The food menu is small but pretty good and service is friendly. Also, it's dog friendly!

Favourite vegan food in Nottingham - Edit
Been many times and the food never disappoints. Best „fish” and chips I have ever had in my life. A lot of choices, so anyone can find what they like. 50% off on all food on Wednesday makes it one of the cheapest places for vegan food in the city. I adore the vibe of the place and could recommend to anyone who would like to try tasty vegan food.

Excellent freshly cooked fresh food. I chose the pie option. Tasty, homemade. Fresh, not overcooked veg and "proper" cooked chips.

Nice food... when they get it right - Edit
Ive enjoyed the food I’ve tried at the Angel - although they sell out of things really quickly, so I’ve often ended up having to go for my 2nd or even 3rd choice. Not a big fan of the nut roast on the Sunday roast, and it’s a shame they don’t do a vegan Yorkshire pudding. However, by far the biggest problem is that on a couple of occasions now I’ve been served the vegetarian option instead of the vegan one, so unfortunately I don’t trust them to get it right and I’ll be sticking to places where I’m not constantly second-guessing what I’ve been served.

The seitan steak with mushrooms and peppercrop sauce was delicious. They offer all dishes equally in vegan or vegetarian.

Will quite happily come back for 3rds - Edit
I had two vegan meals here this week, picked from a choice of 6 mains with the possibility of a vegan special. It’s worth checking the chalk boards or asking what the specials are. So far, I’ve had the vegan steak with peppercorn sauce because, peppercorn sauce! And green vegetables! So many places seem allergic to offering fresh green veg, so this is great to see. The sauce was great, the seitan crisped and beautiful. Day 2 I plumped for the pie (it was pea, carrot and mushrooms) served with loads of gravy (thanks for not being stingy) and great mash. Desserts were good, there’s a brownie and a daily special. Overall, I really appreciate their outlook to making homemade food, so I’ll have to try their sausages next unless there’s something better on the specials board. It’s very reasonable too!

Disappointing - Edit
Been here 3 times, the first 2 they didn't have hardly anything on the menu. The third time we did finally get service. And all I can say is what a disappointment the food here was. I had the herbivore pie and it was rock solid, the accompanying veg was like mush.

Good vegan selection - Edit
They didn't have any vegan pies, and they said with the 'steak' they were trying out different things, the latest was a falafel-like vegetable steak. I opted for the fish and chips, I'd never had beer-battered tempeh before! I don't often go for vegan fish options on menus as I was never much a fan of actual fish but this one didn't mention any seaweed or spices and when it came it didn't taste really fishy.
Read moreThere are enough options to allow you not to get bored with the menu. They have lots of craft beer as well, though I only asked about a couple of them as to whether they were vegan or not. There was an in-house IPA I tried which I found a little bitter and I wouldn't get again (Calypso?) but then I'm often underwhelmed by IPAs. They have enough drinks I'm sure there must be a few vegan ones. Would be good with their attention to detail on food if they had an obvious vegan drinks menu.

Found this by accident as the Alley café closed early one night and directed us here. loads of veggie and vegan options in mains and desserts, not the quickest service so we didn't have chance to sample desserts as we had a show to get to.The only downside is the portion sizes were maybe a little on the small side.
