Beautiful restaurant with amazing food. Seems pricey at first glance but it’s definitely worth it! The Ramen is really good

Pricey, but worth it - Edit
This was the first Vegan exclusive restaurant I had been too, since converting (Jan 2020), I had the Coconut Tofu Curry, and was not disappointed, the price was reflective of the fish served, and although indid go overboard, it dies reflect value for money when equalled out.

Great Food, helpful staff - Edit
My wife and I had the sharing player to start which was very tasty and quite filling. My wife had the laksa which was really nice, I had the fish and chips, chips were really good, fish was better than other imitation fish I've had but still not amazing - I guess it's quite hard to get a convincing fish imitation. We had the cheesecake and the hazelnut slice for dessert, both really nice.
Read moreWas a bit unsure about going as a number of reviews say portions are small and flavours not that great, but we were both stuffed after our meals, and we generally eat quite a lot, and the flavours were all really good.
Staff were really friendly and helpful - allowed my wife to change her main order after we had eaten our starter.
Pros: Friendly helpful staff, Nice food, Fully vegan
Cons: A tad expensive

Sadly a bit average - Edit
I hadn’t been to the new Manchester restaurant but I really enjoyed it when I visited them in Stockport. We visited at lunch on the last day of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme and the restaurant was fairly busy. I really like the decoration and the staff are really helpful and friendly.
Read moreSadly I was disappointed with the food though. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad in any way but it’s not fine dining as it was before yet they’re still serving small portions at pretty expensive prices.
Me and my boyfriend shared the cauliflower and tender stem broccoli & chicory to start. Both these dishes were nice and seasoned well. My boyfriend had the “fish” and chips for mains and I had the laksa. My boyfriend enjoyed his main but the “fish” was really small.
I was a bit dubious about having a laksa served with rice and poppadoms as they’re not typically served together. There’s not much you can say about plain rice really but the laksa itself while nice was under seasoned so it tasted a bit bland and I had to ask for some salt. To be fair I do like salt on/in my food but I don’t usually have to ask for it in restaurants as I find food is usually seasoned well when you eat out. The tofu was really delicious and it’s great to see courgetti served instead of noodles for people who are gluten free. Paying full price this dish would have been £13.50 which I’m happy to pay when the food is really good but on this occasion I wouldn’t say it would be worth that much. If you’re into food presentation (doesn’t bother me much) the laksa itself was served in a nice bowl on the plate but the rice was just next to it.
Dessert for me was the best course and we shared a blueberry cheesecake and hazelnut slice. These looked so pretty as they had flowers on the plates and they were both really tasty!
All in all the food is okay but it’s not overly special and sadly I don’t think I’ll be back anytime soon.
Pros: Fully vegan , Nice staff , Great desserts
Cons: Expensive , Some things under seasoned

Uncomfortable experience - Edit
Treated my mum to brunch here a while ago and experienced an unwelcoming reception. I'm pretty sure that they were opened for at least 30 mins before, but when we arrived, they gave us a really weird look as in "why do we have customers already, this is too early"...they just kinda stared at us before greeting us.
Read moreWe got seated as we were actually the only ones there and the service was a miss - slow and we felt like we walked into a place that was above us in status due to the servers actions.
Anyways, we had the beetroot cooked 3-ways and a courgette dish. I guess being a "high-end" place, the price reflected that and the food came out in a tiny portion.
Flavour-wise, I don't remember it blowing my mind, nor was it bad...it was food.
I really like the interior of this place and the dishes looked really pretty, but the server(s), the vibe and the price made it a so-so experience. I'm glad that my lovely mum was such a great company :)

My favourite vegan restaurant in Manchester, and fantastic for a slightly more refined evening. Ever-changing menu keeps it interesting and the food never disappoints; always superb and interesting flavours. A little more expensive, but the food and experience justify it for me

Great food, slow service - Edit
Had a delicious lunch at Allotment, the only problem was the speed of service (40 mins for starters, 40 for main course, 20 for pudding). The food made up for the wait, but if you want a quick meal during your lunch break take note...

I had been looking forward to coming here for a while, alas I was very disapointed the food was overpriced and the portions were small. what little there was tasted ok but deep frying everything, it is easy to make things taste ok. The staff were very nice and the decor was lovely.

Read moreWent for brunch on a Sunday with a friend. The place was dead, but as we were seated quite far away we were a bit neglected by serving staff. Brunch was very expensive, and there was no cake being served til 2pm so we had to go elsewhere for that. We need cake after brunch!
Staff didn’t notice us trying to call for bill so we got up and paid.
Pros: Vegan!, Delicious food
Cons: Dead so no ambience, Inattentive staff , No cake on Sunday until 2!

My husband and I loved everything about The Allotment. There was a warm welcome from friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff, imaginative delicious food, and a great atmosphere. We tried a confit aubergine with potato tureen, a hassleback courgette with chowder, the cauliflower wings and the seasonal greens, plus some fab desserts including a really delicious creme brulee. Every bite was perfection!

Every now and then you have an experience that makes you even more excited to be a plant-based eater - and this was certainly one for me. I enjoyed the seasonal three course set menu for £20. It was flavourful, rich in texture yet still unpretentious. It's fine dining, but in a warm, casual atmosphere. I'll definitely be back when in Manchester.
