Good not great - Edit

Was terribly excited to try out The Alley has plenty of press and hype about its opening. The shop itself is in a great location and has a super fit out. As for the food the burgers were ok a bit on the sweet side for me and the sweet potato fries while tasty were extremely poor value at around $7 for about 10 chips. Found it to be an extremely underwhelming experience foodwise.

Pros: Great fit out!, Friendly staff, Good location

Cons: Chips poor value, Tiny burgers, Bit sweet for my liking

Food OK but lots of waste packaging - Edit

We came here around 2pm on a Saturday and ordered two burgers and some wedges from the counter. When I expressed concern about the amount of waste, the friendly worker told me we could have the burgers on ceramic plates because the lunch rush was over. The Maple Bacon Burger was nice, but sweet. The Beet Steak Burger was more my taste with its vinegary Sriracha aioli, which also accompanied the wedges. Unfortunately the wedges were a bit limp rather than crisp. There was still a good deal of disposable material with the order, including a plastic sauce cup, although I noticed the wedges packet was biodegradable. For this reason (the waste) I wouldn't make a point of coming back. There was no toilet available because the one in the building shared with other food businesses was only open during regular business hours.

Pros: Friendly staff

Cons: Lots of disposable packaging , No toilet

OMG died and gone to heaven! - Edit

Finally, a great vegan restaurant in South Melbourne! Perfect mix of healthy and junky and sweet prices. I have been here many times now. Often have the mac and cheese - so warming and topped with lovely crispy breadcrumbs. The chips are delicious, both the wedges and sweet potato. My partner has had the spaghetti squash and meatballs, hawaiian burger and hale to the kale salad - and he said they were all amazing. Really nice chai lattes and soft serve ice cream too. Also had the breakfast - crumpets wirh AMAZING whipped maple butter and delicious green tea choc chip pancakes. Great shakes too! Would rather they didn't use disposable cutlery for dine in but maybe they will start using plates and glasses down the track.

Missed the mark - Edit

I hate to write this but the Alley was so disappointing. The concept is great and exactly what we need in Melbourne but the food just wasn't worth it. The first time I went myself and a friend ordered a burger and a mac and cheese. The burger was bland and fell apart but the mac and cheese was awesome. Went back for more mac and cheese but found it both bland in flavour, yet overly sweet. I hope things improve.

All day restaurant quality whole food plant based dining - Edit

Finally a place that serves amazingly fresh tasty plant based food that you can eat everyday. A great place to meet non-vegans for lunch as you know they will come away satisfied (and not feeling deprived of meat). Fit out is modern fresh and fun, with options to sit out in the sun. This place has filled the gap in Melbourne for what was lacking in the Vegan restaurants,, think of the speed and convenience of LOTF but with loads more healthier options, and the menu variety and freshness of a Vege Bar / Yong - but with a different atmosphere and faster service. If you haven't experienced vegan cafes in LA like Cafe Gratitude etc, The Alley is definitely worth checking out.

Pros: lot of variety- cooked, raw, healthy options and &, minimal vegetable oils used- e.g. chips are air ba, Fast- almost McDonald's like speed, and great
