Not A Spot-less Performance - Edit
One of the numerous joys of this city is that, if ever you’re craving açai, the likelihood is that you’re never too far from a purveyor of this blissful Brazilian creation, and this place proved that point perfectly.
Read moreHaving been in the mall in which this branch is housed out of circumstance rather than choice, I thought I would take the opportunity to slake my steadily rising need for one of these frozen treats.
Of course, I also wanted to avail myself of as many of the vegan options that they had as possible. So, having spotted a granola bar for the taking, I duly ordered it and hoped for the best. Acting as an amuse-bouche before the main events arrived, it was far more impressive than its rather ordinary appearance may have suggested. Fearing a dry, hard slab, instead I was presented with a moist, pliable morsel that paired beautifully with the rather tasty iced oat latte.
When it came time for the bowls, as they were laid in front of me, I couldn’t help but feel my heart sink a little. Before even breaking into either, I couldn’t help but notice that the açaí appeared glacial and unappealing, and my first exploratory spoonful confirmed these suspicions. This is perhaps a forgivable issue when having this foodstuff delivered to your door, but when served fresh—and in an establishment that has built its entire identity around said dish—it’s quite the faux pas in my eyes.
However, once thawed slightly, both were perfectly acceptable, if not groundbreaking, iterations of their ilk, with The Nuts About version beating out The Original in terms of preference. The most remarkable element of the entire endeavour was the strawberries that garnered the former; they actually tasted like fruit, which they were, as opposed to the turgid, potato-like facsimiles to which I have become accustomed.
If I happened to be in close proximity to this location again, I may—depending on my mood—deign to give it another go, though I can’t say that I’ll be actively seeking a return.
