Mainstream Italian Eatery in Grand Rapids

Testa Rossa Pizzeria brings a warm, casual Italian dinning with an haut-scale veneer. New to the Grand Rapids area, and the same company as its neighbor Electric Cheetah Company and the Old Goat, is Testa Rossa Pizzeria. Similar to The Old Goat, the flair of the restaurant comes from the cocktail lounge style band playing. I can imagine the experience is elevated from when the band is serenading verses when they are not. During my visit there was even a Opera singer that dazzled the customers. Molto bene!

The food is short on vegan options, but it tries. Our server was very friendly and plant-based as well, so she was knowledgeable in giving recommendations. We ordered the garlic knots that can be made vegan with vegan parmesan cheese. They were a guilt pleasure, but they might have offended an Italian with the American amounts of oil they were puddled in. A typical meal comes with complimentary bread, which we did not know until after ordering the garlic knots. We were stuffed with carbs.

I settled on the classic spaghetti with marinara sauce and added vegan sausage. The highlight was the vegan sausage, it was well-seasoned and plentiful in the sauce. The noodles did not taste house made, but I did not clarify with the server to confirm either way. For drink, I ordered the Limoncello cocktail which was almost undrinkable with how sweet it was.

I will enjoy visiting Testa Rossa Pizzeria again, and if you are in the mood for some upscale junk-food Italian that has vegan options, I recommend.

Pros: Live Band, Vegan sausage, Plant-Based Server

Cons: Not Entirely Vegan, Very sweet cocktails, Not house-made noodles
