mediocre vegan spot

meh. saw this place on happy cow and have been wanting to try it for months. finally got around to it this past monday (4/28/14) and was disappointed. the patio is cute even though it is on a busy road. i was unsure if we were supposed to counter order or what. it was awkward. we sat down outside, and eventually, a young man came out to take our order. i am hesitant to call him a server because he didn't carry a pen and paper and wasn't too knowledgeable about the menu either. i asked him about the vegan wine and cheese plate. he had to go inside to get clarification from someone. we finally ordered a vegan wine, a happy hour special merlot for my friend, and the supposed vegan cheese plate. it was NOT a cheese plate (as i would have imagined)! the design and taste were quite lacking. the plate came out with toasted sourdough bread and a small mason jar filled with the "cheese" concoction. i could tell the cheese was homemade (however in this case daiya would have been a welcome substitute). the "cheese" dip was layered with red peppers on top. it was kind of like a sundried tomato flavor, at least i think that was what they were going for. at any rate, it was extremely disappointing and didn't have much flavor and had zero flair. the wine was good. the desserts listed on the menu are not always in stock. the only vegan dessert i could get was a scone, which i do not like. too bad, i was really looking forward to them redeeming themselves with the vegan chocolate cake listed. although not knowledgeable, the server was sweet and the bathroom was a one stall unisex but clean. i would probably go back, but definitely would not go out of my way to do so again. i am curious about the vegan sausage on the menu.

Pros: vegan wine, good location, cute patio

Cons: lack of knowledge of staff, things on menu not available
