Vegetarian canteen of the 10000 Buddhas monastery

This restaurant is located at the top of the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery in Sha Tin.

The staff was very friendly although they spoke very little english. The food is not overpriced and the quality of it was quite decent.

We ordered only two dishes as we were mainly thirsty after the hard and extremely beautiful walk up the hill. We didn't like the vegetarian ribs in sweet and sour sauce very much because of the texture of the mock meat, but it was quite tasty.

The fried Singapore style noodles were absolutely amazing. They seasoning they had gave pretty deep flavors to the noodles after they had been cooked and that made them delicious.

Plus, the views from the restaurant are a positive add-on to the whole experience. Very recommended.

Pros: Great food, Cheap

Not very good

I cannot understand why anybody would say phenomenal about this meal. Any buddhist restaurant does a better job. My suggestion: eat somewhere else....

great place

A very nice half day trip from HK. The temple is 30mn walk from the MTR. Loved the walk up, surrounded by gold colour statues of monks. The restaurant is also great. Loved the #13 braised hedgehog mushroom and also the tasty Japanese noodle in Singapore style.

Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery, Hong Kong

I went up here for lunch yesterday. It's phenomenal. The setting is magnificent, the views are terrific, the food great. All of the buddhas on the walk up have a different personality being expressed. The walk itself though is quite challenging. Its steep with over 400 steps. By the time I reached the top on a July afternoon I was drenched with sweat.

If you do undertake the walk up it may be smart to go early in the morning when its less hot, or of course to go at an alternative time to the height of summer. Take a bottle of water for the journey. There's resting benches dotted alongside the walk up.

Pros: Vegan friendly, Great food, Fabulous setting

Cons: 430 steep steps uphill

Very friendly, good vegan menu

Informal canteen next to the main hall of the monastery. The menu had a good range of Chinese vegan options, moderate prices ($55 for mains, $15 for snacks) and large portions. The woman running the canteen was extremely friendly and made great efforts to communicate, despite our lack of Chinese and her lack of English.
