Great restaurant!

Found via Happy Cow, Google. Reviews have been overwhelming positive, so we tried it out. We were not disappointed! It was rainy, so we sat inside. Our host was very friendly, and helped explain the menu, vegan options. Food came quickly, and was fantastic! I think that this restaurant has the whole package: great food, nice location, friendly staff, reasonable prices, beer/wine, small but clean toilet.

Pros: Vegan choices, Convenient location, Friendly staff

Five stars if I could

Amazing hospitality and incredible food. We sat down an ordered a few drinks to start, and soon thereafter one of the owners asked if we were vego- completely unprompted 🫶 She brought out a vego dish for us while we had our drinks. So much kindness and hospitality from all the team

Great food (vegan aware) :)

NOTE - you have to tell them you're vegan (as the dishes come with some cheese and maybe egg?) we saw non-vegan people next to us have cheese on top of there's, so definitely tell them no cheese, no egg and no meat.
Our server greeted us with a small glass of non-alcoholic grape juice before taking our order. We ordered the stuffed peppers, stuffed aubergine and beans!
The beans are so good! You don't find them at all traditional Albanian places.
At the end of our meal, our server tried to bring us complimentary cake but remembered we couldn't eat eggs and apologized. This was reassuring that he knew what vegan was though!😄good meal, close to the castle entrance up the hill.

Amazing place! A must

Amazing family tavern in Gjirokastër with tons of vegan and vegetarian options. Be careful though the address is wrong, here is the one: Rruga Bule Naipi Dunavat 1, Gjirokastra 6001. The name is « Kardhashi », as there are many taverns around with the same names.
Amazing hospitality with free raki and cakes (not vegan). Mention always « pa djathë » (no cheese)
Xhulio, the main guy/waiter knows very well what vegan means

Delicious

But pay Attention to the eggplants of you are vegan mama didn't prepare for you because they have eggs inside probably. In Albania you have to Say that you don't It cheese/gheese and also eggs or they think you are vegetarian.

Pros: Sarma, Baked vegetables, Beans gjigandes

Hektisch

Das Essen ist nicht schlecht, aber im Verlauf des Abends werden immer noch mehr Gäste reingequetscht und das Personal ist zunehmend überfordert. Damit wird der Service sehr langsam.

So hospitable!

Super friendly staff! Staff new vegan options and I got stuffed eggplant and pepper without the dairy sauce. The guy brought us a clove non alcoholic liquor, pickled vegetables, dessert and a shot of raki (not on the hill). My partner got the moussaka and rice balls (vegetarian). 10/10 would recommend for their fun and kindness

Pros: Vegan aware, Free food and drinks , Price

Cons: I’ve had better stuffed peppers

Awesome food and love for dogs

I wish I could give six stars for this place. It felt like the first time I had more than two choices as a vegan and the family knew exactly how to cater to my needs. I don’t need to tell you how delicious the food is (stuffed eggplant, stuffed pepper, stuffed wineleaves and baked beans for me, spinach/cheese pie for my omni bf), as you can read that in the other comments.

What really impressed me is that they didn’t just cater to human needs.. when we finished our food, a street dog showed up and the whole family greeted it and told the youngest sibling to get dog food and they put out water and everything. Almost like seeing an old friend. The host loves dogs and they take care of them. Thank you so much, faleminderit 🧡

Pros: More vegan options than any other place

Good food

We went here for lunch. They had several vegetarian dishes (they asked if you eat vegetarian or not), no vegan options but possible to ask for it. Food is good, kind people.

Pros: Good food, Quick

Cons: You have to ask specifically for vegan food

Very delicious

The staff was very kind, but the woman doesn’t understand us so good, her younger colleague who speaks very good english came later. But I think in summer it works better! The food was very good and the atmosphere is amazing.

Excellent vegan and vegetarian food

Even if it is true that they also serve meat, I should say that almost 95% of the menu is vegetarian. Veggie mussaka was great! Also the vegetarian balls. Service was great. Run by a very nice family. Hospitality 100%

Pros: Muchas opciones veganas, Muy buenos precios

Tasty food and the best hospitality in Albania!

We walked past this restaurant on our way to see the ancient aqueduct (highly recommend this) and the owner, seeing we were low on water, kindly offered to fill up our bottle. We casually inquired about the food and he told us most of what was on the menu was actually vegetarian, such as the moussaka and two dishes traditional to this town: a corn and spinach pie and fried 'qifqi' rice balls (like arancini) as well as some vegan options. So we returned from our short hike and ordered the vegan bean stew, stuffed eggplant, and sarma (rice stuffed vine leaves). Roasted potatoes and vegetables, fries and salads were also available on the menu. The generous owner gave us pickled vegetables to go with his homemade raki (one of the best grape rakis I've ever had) and we had a unique and delicious clove liqueur with a fruit platter for dessert.

Tasty food and exceptional service in this beautiful historic town!
