Simple, delicious traditional food

Few well indicated vegan options on the menu, but very fresh and tasty food. The manager was helpful.
Don’t hesitate to ask about the dishes of the day, 2 out of 5 were vegan for our visit.

Pros: Delicious, View to the sea, Well priced

Our favourite in Crete

We visited Taverna Kalyva on our last day in Crete and were simply stunned by the relaxed atmosphere, although it was quite crowded at lunchtime, and the view from the porch. The staff was exceptionally attentive and friendly. Regardless the heavily advertised seafood, the owners understand veganism and were able to veganize one of the dishes. We ordered okra with potatoes in tomato sauce, pasta salad, fries and fava which were all very fresh and delicious. (Visited in April ’22)

A highlight of our trip to Crete!

This taverna is located right on Potamos Beach. It‘s a lovely spot and you have a great view of the beach and also of the mountains. So beautiful and relaxing. The staff made us feel so welcome and the owner told us that his wife was vegan and that we shouldn‘t worry about the food. The vegan dishes are marked on the menu, but I think it might be best to additionally mention that you are vegan.
First we got some complementary bread with olive oil, then we had the pasta salad, chips and the yellow pea puree plus a dish of the changing menu, ocra with potatoes.
All dishes were very fresh and delicious. In the end we got some complementary fruit as well. The prices were so small and the portions generous.

We loved everything about this taverna!

Traditional Greek food

Owner’s wife is Greek and they understood what this meant for food preparation. Several naturally vegan traditional Greek options, the Greek salad can be modified by removing feta. Laid back spot in Malia for a healthy lunch.

Very tasty Greek food

Ordered chickpea salad, chips and stir fry veg. The chickpea salad came with feta cheese, so had to tell them but were very considerate and came with a new one. The chips were brilliant and the vegetables were absolutely amazing, would order two. It was very busy there but is right by the beach great vegan food would definitely go again

Pros: Delicious vegan Greek food

Cons: One meal arrived with cheese, had to get a new one

Positively surprised

I actually only expected to get salad or fries as vegan options in a place like this, but after checking the menu I saw the vegan symbol on a couple of dishes and when ordering was asked by the owner if I was vegan and recommended a daily dish which was also vegan.
Very friendly staff too.

Pros: Nice view at the sea, Tasty food, Free Wi-Fi

Cons: Often crowded , Serves meat
