this was the saddest meal.. husband got the vegan nachos, i got a ruben and fries.. the fries were inedible.. mooshy and greasy, tasted like old deep fryer- the “queso” was flavourless and watery, the nachos were overcooked. the sourkraut at least somewhat saved the sandwich… it was a total waste…

What I like most about Tastebuds is that unlike many vegan restaurants that offer a veganized version of McDonald's, Tastebuds buffet offers a nice assortment of simple plant-based dishes pleasantly spiced with tasty sauces that make for a hearty and healthy meal. You'll feel good after dining at Tastebuds. If you are traveling on Highway 101 through Mendocino County in Northern California, Tastebuds is definitely worth taking the Ukiah off-ramp.

Super nice to have a full vegan restaurant in Ukiah and unexpected. The food was mediocre that we tried. I got a salad that had rice underneath with a lot of tahini on it, a bit bland. My bf got the jerk burrito and it was super salty he said (and spicy which I didn’t like).

Coming back from fort Bragg and needed lunch. Went for the buffet. Had beans, rice, pot sticker looking items, tofu, some spicy pieces and one other item. All were tasty. Grabbed a chocolate chip cookie too. Wait staff were friendly and helpful.

Who'd have thought that there'd be a really delicious vegetarian (nearly vegan) restaurant in Ukiah?!? All but two items are vegan - cow on grilled cheese sandwich and on a Reuben sandwich.
Read moreWe ordered from the buffet - where we had tempeh, sweet & sour chk'n, collard greens, sweet potato w/peanut butter mash, curried potatoes & garbanzo beans, and eggplant. All was delicious. We also had gluten free vegan chocolate chip cookies. All our choices were excellent we would gladly order them again.
There are also made-to-order menu items, like sandwiches and wraps - which we hope to have on our next visit.
The staff was very warm and welcoming.
Pros: delicious , good pricing, nearly all vegan
Cons: wish it was 100% vegan :)

Everything is vegan at this fun casual restaurant near downtown Ukiah with the exception of two sandwiches that include dairy cheese. They have a prepared selection of about 8 hot dishes, or you can select from a specialty menu that includes sandwiches and several raw selections. The food was extremely flavorful and every one of the five hot dishes that we shared on a combination platter was great. We will definitely stop by again whenever we are in the area!

I'm very happy that Tastebuds is in Ukiah. Their food is similar to food I would make at home- various lentils, beans, whole grains, and vegetable dishes. Also some raw options including raw pies.
Read moreThe other day I went for the combo plate, and it was delicious- I chose some garlicky kale, curried garbanzos, and a carrot-beet-cauliflower dish. All good and simple.
For $8.50 it filled me up, and felt good in my body. And it was super fast, so I could take it with me to the mechanic and eat it while they fixed my car.
The hemp shakes are DIVINE! No sugar, but sweetened with dates. I love the nettle/vanilla/goji/ berry combo!
When I was there, I would have loved to try the tempeh or something similar, but they only had several mock meats with gluten.
With all that praise said, about one out of 4 times I've gone here, the food has not been very good....undercooked veggies, bland pasta....so there is a risk you come on an off day....

My husband and I were on a roadtrip and found ourselves very hungry and traveling through Ukiah. We decided to try Tastebuds and were extremely pleasantly surprised to find that almost everything was vegan. We both had combo plates which is 3 items from their already prepared dishes. All of the items were really good, the bbq tofu was my favorite. Staff was very friendly as well. I would make it a point to stop and eat here if I am ever in the area again.
