Vegan Mexican food paradise - Edit

Let’s me honest: it sort of sucks not being able to order whatever you want (if anything at all) at an authentic Mexican food joint as a vegan. Look no further... this place offers TONS of vegan options and it is all delicious!! My friend and I were actually overwhelmed by the vastness of vegan options. We ended up getting a 4 item combo plate (each) which came with rice and beans. I can’t even say which was my favorite... but the enchilada is a must. Do yourself a vegan favor and go check this place out! By the way... the only reason I gave 4 stars is because you can’t give 5 to Omni places, but I would if I could. The owner was very engaging and excited about all of the vegan items. There’s also vegan tamales available in the fridge for a quick take out. Okay, one negative.. it did take quite a while to get our food (we were on vacay so it wasn’t a huge deal for us, but don’t go if you’re in a rush).

Fantastic vegan options - Edit

This little hole in the wall has so many options for vegans. I ordered their cauliflower burrito with vegan guacamole, beans and vegan queso. It was awesome and they have three sizes that are so reasonably priced! My man ordered the vegan mushroom burrito with carrot bacon with the beans and vegan queso. Also awesome! They have vegan soup options and I think vegan horchata too. The owner is so helpful and spirited on their vegan choices. They have a vegan chef creating these marvels. Love this place!!

Pros: lots of vegan options, delicious, affordable

Cons: some dishes are very spicy so just ask ahead of ti

Would be 5 if I could - Edit

So the Happy Cow knocked off a star because they serve meat. Whatever. They treat everyone fairly. The food is awesome. I went here when I was a meat eater, will continue on my new life journey.

vegan food - Edit

I went to Tanias to try some of their vegan options. I had a great mushroom burrito and got a lentil burrito for dinner and some tamales. Very excited with all the options they have. I will definitely be going there again :)

Pros: Lots of vegan options and a helpful friendly staff

Cons: They also serve animal products.

I wish I could give 5 stars! - Edit

This place is absolutely amazing! It's also pretty inexpensive, we both got regular sized burritos and drinks for around $15.

I'd recommend the cauliflower burrito or taco. I added guac, cilantro and onion, and ranchero sauce. It was so good! I also had the pick 3 tacos. I got cauliflower, lentejas, and the potatoes with green chile.

There are sooo many vegan options. And don't be afraid to ask questions! The people working here are so nice and super helpful.

OH!!!! They also have vegan tamales! I haven't tried them yet because they won't have them until the weekend but I'm super excited to get some!

Simply the best - Edit

I agree with the other positive reviews.

Though they serve meat, there are a TON of vegan options here, and they have the best burritos on town. The tamales and chimichangas are great, as well.

LOTS of vegan options, and all of them are good.

Pros: LOTS of vegan options, Delicious

Cons: Serves meat

One of a kind, and a real treat - Edit

Rudy has a real knack for quickly determining what kind of food you might be interested in. He gave us the full primer on the vegan and vegetarian items. I really appreciated the time and care he took to let us know what was in each dish and how anything could be tailored to our individual tastes and dietary needs. All entrees are customized -- you order from a long list of basic combinations and then choose additional ingredients from another long list. My burrito was hands-down the best I've ever eaten (and I've been eating them for over 50 years) -- cauliflower flash-fried and still fresh and crisp, sweet peppers, mild roasted green chiles, carrots browned on the outside but still fresh and crisp, corn and other fresh vegetables in a perfect tortilla, with beans and rice on the side. It was awesome! My spouse's soy chorizo burrito was amazing too (I tasted it). Funky but pleasant atmosphere. I wish this place were near where I live.

Pros: Owner is friendly and helpful, Food is very well-prepared and delicious, Variety of vegan options is huge

Love their vegan fish tacos--made w/ cauliflower - Edit

This food is fun! My family and I love this little restaurant. We've had take-out and eat-in. I'd give this a 5-stars if Happy Cow would let me (max of 4 for non-veg restaurants).

The people who work here know what vegan means and happily offer suggestions and accommodations. We've never had them mess up. The food tastes amazing. Not all of it is super healthy though (e.g. the fried items), but it all tastes great. They also have very authentically Mexican foods, which many other places don't. This is a nice treat.

Their mock meats vary, as they all taste very much like their meat counterpart. Be warned of this if you don't like the taste. Relish in it if you do! :)

Pros: Wonderful rich flavors, Knows what is vegan!, Great vegan options

Cons: Hours aren't the easiest for me, Not super healthy food, Sometimes runs out of ingredients

My boyfriend and I ate here tonight on our way through Tucson, on the recommendation of some vegan friends who also stop here on their way through Tucson. This place is amazingly delicious! The best darn flour tortillas I've had in quite a while. I built my own burrito with beans and potatoes, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, salsa, etc. My boyfriend got the soy chorizo and potato breakfast burrito. (Yes, they actually serve breakfast burritos all day long!)I also got a cup of tortilla soup (has potatoes in it). The cup of soup was ONLY $2!! The food literally made me "ooh" and "ahh" throughout my meal. All of their burritos - and their menu is quite extensive - come in various sizes (Small, Regular/Medium, Large, and X-Large) and prices (from $3 to $9). Very affordable! The place kinda looks like a dive, but who cares? The food is amazing and the staff was exceptionally sweet and knowledgeable about vegan food.

I would love to give the place 5 stars (or cows), but Happy Cow only allows for 4 since they serve meat. In any case, they have my highest rating!

Pros: Inexpensive, Delicious

Cons: The place looks a bit run down

The best vegan Mexican food ever? - Edit

I had to make that a question because I truly don't know if Tanias is the best Mexican food ever. What I do know is that it is amazingly good, and that is saying something so close to the Mexican border. Rudy is amazing. He is a character and that adds to the charm of the place. The food never disappoints. They are so many vegan options it can be a fun to try something new every time I go back. My current favorite is the soya verde burrito, with rice and cilantro y onions added.

I truly cannot believe how flexible they are when ordering. You can BYOB (build your own burrito) and it has always worked well for me. The soy chorizo is just spiced enough without being overwhelming. The salsa, let me just say that I love their salsa. They now give me extra salsa without even asking.

There are two negatives. One, is an unsubstantiated rumor that their guacamole comes frozen and is not made in house. I have not asked Rudy about it because everything else is just that good. The second and most important negative is that they close at 6 pm. I can barely make there after work!

Happy cow's new rating system and only letting me give them 4 cows is disappointing. This place has so many vegan options it will make your head spin. I have been to vegan restaurants with less vegan options, worse service, and worse atmosphere but happy cow wants me to give them a similar rating simply because they are vegan. That isn't fair to Tanias.

Pros: price, portions, Rudy

'Authentic' vegan Mexican food! - Edit

I put authentic in quotes because food in Mexico (at least in rural areas) is pretty heavy on lard and meat. I haven't been back since going vegan, but I imagine it will be a challenge :-)

This place, however, was a very pleasant surprise. I love Mexican food and am pretty tired of Chipotle burritos. This little joint has a HUGE selection of vegan and vegetarian options, which they are clearly proud of (and should be). We went for breakfast and had some great Soy Chorizo & Potato burritos. I look forward to returning for lunch and trying out their Calabacitas and Soya Verde burritos. They also have a pretty good selection of grab-n-go burritos and tamales in the fridge and sell some of their burrito fillings by the gallon if you're throwing a party. Best vegan Mexican food I've had here yet.

Pros: excellent food, good value, friendly staff
