Very few vegetarian/vegan options

The place changed its name, but you can still find it under this name on the internet. There was no more tofu or vegetarian dishes as I read in the reviews. The only vegetarian options were vegetables (mushrooms, eggplant & paksoi) and rice. So this is what we ordered. I used my translate app to ask the waitress in Chinese for options without meat or fish and she understood. I think those options are vegan as well.

Don’t trust the staff

We ate here 3 days in a row and ordered the same dishes everyday (tofu, mushrooms, seasonal vegetables and gold cakes). We had asked and checked (through translate) everyday that the dishes didn’t contain animal products and we were assured that the dishes we ordered were okay and suitable for vegans. On the last day we got told (by a different staff member) that the tofu dish had egg in the sauce. After watching the staff all speak to one another we got told that it wouldn’t contain egg. When we had the tofu dish on the last day, the sauce was clearly different from the previous 2 days which shows that they disregarded what we had asked and that it did in fact contain egg. The sauce was a darker yellow on the first 2 days, more creamy on the last and tasted very different and extremely salty.
We feel very disrespected and physically sick that they had lied to us and gave us animal products even after we double checked with different staff members.
We would advise anyone not to eat here if you are vegan as we would not trust them.
We will attach the photos to show the difference in the sauces between the first and last day.

Great

Got the following and they were all good, especially the enoki and the glutinous rice pastry

Bean curd
Enoki with garlic
Ai Xiang gold cake(glutinous rice pastry)
Corn juice

There are separate, albeit small, charges for the tea and napkins that they initially bring you if you drink/use.

We went multiple times and got charged for rice the second time (not sure what changed)

Pretty good

We enjoyed our dinner here. We even went here twice! First time we ordered to much (white rice and 4 other dishes) so the next day we ordered rice and 3 side dishes which was perfect (yes, I'm a big eater 😋). One portion of rice is enough for two persons. The tofu was good and we really liked the mushrooms and garlic. But beware, it's very oily! You can order your food by filling in the paper menu. A lot of things are in English but not the drinks. And on top of the menu you can fill in how spicy you want the food to be.

Pros: Vegan and vegetarian options, Fast service, Decent prices

Cons: Loud people

got served meat

the place is big, and opens until 22:30.

the waiter understood me when i asked for vegan options.

we ordered some rice noodles without meat/egg, tofu and ‘yams in sauce’. They served us the yam in some animal product. I only realised after couple of bites ー kinda disgusting.

I told the waiter, and he was understanding and did not charge us that dish.

maybe my experience was an outlier, but can’t rate it higher after this.

the name in chinese: 唐师傅湘西名菜馆

Pros: menu in english, waiter kind

Cons: got served meat

Not many veggie dishes

This restaurant is mainly for meat eaters. Veggie side dishes are available but rare. They made fried rice with veggies for us, but it was not on the menu. Wouldn’t go there again.

Difficult communication, but tasty food

There is only a menu in chinese. I ate the cauliflower with rice which was really tasty. In my opinion the restaurant is still quite cheap. 30 Yuan for the meal and 4 for a coke.

Oily food, eggplant and beans-yum

Spacious place, fairly easy to find. Some staff speak a little English, I used translations to tell staff what I can't eat. I was shown what options on the menu were only veggies and the server also wrote a note to the chef of what I couldn't eat which was nice.

Everything has odd names, the tofu and bamboo shoots soup (no idea what it was called on the menu) tasted nice but fairly bland. I loved the sauteed eggplant and green beans, I must have ordered it 5 tines.. Unfortunately the dish is EXTREMELY oily. I also ordered the spicy potatoes, which was alright but also oily.

Cons: Oily

Better than expected

So far I've become somewhat of a flexivegan since I've arrived in china since skiing for no meat (meigou rou), no fish (meihou yu), no egg (meigou jidan) and no milk (meigou niunai) doesn't always seem to work. This place had a lot of seemingly vegan options but it's impossible to know for sure.

Look for a pretty fancy looking place, a bit to the right from miland. Expect paying 20-40 cny for a meal per person.

Pros: Good tasting food, Plenty of options, Big portions

Cons: Not cheap
