Incredible - Edit
Was so happy to eat here after leaving the Bay years ago and dreaming about the taco cart from downtown Oakland. The resto did not disappoint and even my omni friends claimed it’s the best burrito they’ve had anywhere. Delicious flavor, perfect salsa, generous portion! Perfect!

Delicioso!!! - Edit
This tiny shop has the best vegan Mexican in the East Bay, which is saying something because there is a lot of close competition!
Read moreDon’t try ordering pickup through any of the food apps. Somehow they never received my order but they happily made what I wanted anyway.
The restaurant said they prefer phone orders, not Uber or Doordash, etc.
Great place, conveniently open on the late side, and unbeatable food!

Decent Nachos - Edit
So far I’ve only tried the nachos here. They were decent, but I didn’t care for the flavor of the vegan “meat”. I prefer the nachos at El Talpense.

Superb Mexican - must must - Edit
Outstanding food variety and prepped with generous portions. I tried the triple street taco combo and can’t wait to go back. One table for 2 inside for now. So plan on picking up. Well worth it.

Great vegan meat, too much plastic - Edit
Really loved the vegan meats. They were delicious in the tacos. I was really disappointed that everything came in a big plastic container instead of compostable paper items, even when we ordered to eat in at the small table in the restaurant. We likely won’t be returning for a while simply for the waste created.
Read moreI enjoyed the tacos. Didn’t love the burrito as much because it was just the meat, refried beans, and rice, so there wasn’t much texture like there would be if there were lettuce or veggies in the burrito. But it was a very generous size.
Pros: Vegan meats were great
Cons: Terrible packaging, Burritos didn’t have lettuce or veggies

Eat this now! - Edit
All vegan taco place! Burritos are giant, each are enough for 2 meals. And they are absolutely delicious! Wide selection of vegan meats! The guy who runs this place is also a fun follow on social media! It’s a very small space, so best to order for takeout if you can. Takeout order was ready very fast despite it being a busy night!

La Venganza... I've found you... - Edit
been to the spot on telegraph a couple of times now... been getting the 3 taco sampler.. this last time al pastor, pollo, and carnitas.. all so tasty and juicy... the beans and rice side just the right compliment.. i spied the tray of sweets and treated myself there too... i am blown away how much i enjoy the concha plant based versus when i cave in and buy at panaderia..
Read moreit's a small place.. can eat streetside or takeout... saw plenty of gig pickups too..
on the website they speak to soy and mushroom based mock meats and chef Raul Medina's desire to distribute so more establishments can serve this fare.. that is a dream i wish to see him realize..
Pros: great mock meats.. no impossible, no beyond, on the way home from work! and orders come fast, great encounters with the folks working there

Hearty and tasty vegan tacos in Oakland - Edit
I was curious to check out Taqueria La Venganza with my uncle since was a all vegan taco spot.
Read moreWe each ordered the taco plate which comes with a sampler of three different tacos with a side of beans and rice. Hearty portions and flavorful. Done up right.
The only hiccup was no where to sit at the restaurant so me and my uncle got it to go to the bar down the block called Whitehorse which worked out just fine for the 49ers were playing an elimination game against the Packers.
I got a basketball jones yet you can't get more American than football in a bar so of course I rooted for the 49ers that came up with the W.
Back to the cuisine. It was quite alright. Me and my uncle both enjoyed it. Probably my favorite vegan tacos in America were at Vegan Nom in Austin aka the food truck yet here hit the spot and glad Whitehorse was a welcoming place to enjoy our eats.
For yummy vegan tacos served in hearty portions check them out!

Fail and Owner is petulant - Edit
I’ll preface this review with “I really wanted to like Taqueria La Veganza”…I ordered four DIFFERENT tacos last night- 1 Mushroom Chicharrón Prensado, 1 Mushroom Al Pastor, 1 Mushroom Carnitas Taco and the Mushroom Asada Taco special, and instead I received 3 Mushroom Carnitas Tacos and 1 Mushroom Chicharrón Prensado (I think because they were all packaged in the same box layered on top of one another) so there was no distinction which further supports my claim/experience! Who does that?! To add insult to injury one of those the taco shell was inedible as it was so hard that I could not bite through it and the other taco shells were jyst as hard but I managed to bite through one but stop trying after the first bite and just continued to eat the same Mushroom Carnitas Tacos with a spoon and scoop it out of the shells. I was so disappointed, dissatisfied and vexed as I've been so looking forward to trying this spot. The Mushroom Carnitas Tacos was charred and lacked flavor but that could have been because there were burnt ends and again, it was charred and the Chicharrón Prensado was just okay as it was too bland for my liking. The Pozole was was decent without the burnt Mushroom Carnitas I ordered to add to it. Again, I really wanted to like Taqueria La Veganza but tonight was a true FAIL! #Veganuary

Best Home Made Meat alternatives & best mexican food overall (Note is now fully open please update listing - Edit
Been following La Venganza for years. From random pop ups to boncing around working out of convience store deli counters & the back door of bars. Food is always on point.
Read moreThe new location really steps things up a notch. Happy they've finally found a permanent home where they can have more normal hours & put down roots.
Sauces, Salsas, beans, rice & veggies are allways perfectly seasoned. What makes em unuiqe is the wide varity of home made innovative meat alternatives created with real ingredients like various species of mushrooms, cauliflower, tofu chip powder, etc. This is welcome change of pace from the impossible/beyond processed frozen product many others are using. They should add a tasting plate to the menue where you can just get a small amount of each as the options can be overwhelming.
They've recieved several awards over the years, even beaten out taqueria's with animal meat in blind tase tests.
As such prices are a bit higher but not by much & worth it concidering quality of ingredients & ginormous portions.
Can't recommend highly enough.

Never disappoints - Edit
I’ve never had a a disappointing experience. The consistency in powerful flavors always hits the exact right spot when it comes to quick Mexican cuisine. Their stuff can be spicy so I always recommend salsa on the side or without if you’re someone like me whose tummy will disagree with too much good stuff.

Best vegan taqueria in California! - Edit
This is hands down the best and most authentic vegan taqueria you will find. Get the steak tacos or steak torta . Carnitas and mushroom tend to be too oily and fatty but less flavor. The steak and chicken is on point. Tastes like you're at a taco stand in Mexico. Can't wait for them to open a proper restaurant!

Fast and fulfilling - Edit
I was short on time before my next appointment, but I wanted to support Chef Raul. So I thought fast while on my walk over and remembered that I could place an order ahead of time on Clover for pickup. My torta de pollo ($9) was ready in under 10 minutes, and I picked it up from the counter just west of the main entrance to the Emporium, which wasn't open yet since I arrived between 4pm and 5pm. (You can ring the bell for service at the counter to order in person, too.) I thoroughly enjoyed the torta at one of the tables just outside of the Emporium. It was seasoned beautifully. Sadly, the conchas weren't available, but I hope to try one next time!

Everything is amazing! - Edit
I've eaten here twice and man this place checks all the boxes for great Mexican food and being vegan. I've had their carne asada (so good), conchas, and nachos. Whoever the head chef is they're a genius, the carne is perfectly seasoned, the cheese sauce is smoky and spicy, and the portions are huge! Check this place out if you're in the mood to splurge and fill up on nachos

Overpriced, elitist operation - Edit
This is a kitchen with an online ordering system. There is no way to order without a smart phone or pay cash. No way to interact with a human being to ask questions about allergies/ingredients. And a burrito will set you back $20+ while a concha is $6.
Read moreIf you're part of the laptop class, you'll probably enjoy this place… If you believe in a world filled with human interactions, a world where you can survive without a smartphone and don't need to give up your privacy just to order a freaking taco, you might try somewhere else.
By the way, I tried giving this place 1 star, but HappyCow wouldn't allow me to, because vegan spots get 2 stars minimum apparently. So there is no way to get unbiased ratings based on the opinions of the people on here, even though that's exactly what a rating system is supposed to be for. Just another tech company that thinks it knows better than you and is justified in manipulating your data to fit their agenda… 🤮
LauraDreisbach
Oh brother so you can't go in and order so your giving it two stars? You didn't even mention the food. That doesn't seem very fair to the restaurant. I think it's a ghost kitchen, which is really the best way for a small restaurant to get started when buildings are so expensive to rent in the bay.

All your reviews are one star. You are very negative person. Stop bitching about the "elitist" pop up restaurant by a Mexican immigrant trying to make a living in the exceedingly expensive bay area.

If it matters, I’m almost certain there’s a walk up option now. Only accepting electronic payment seems more like a good and safety thing rather than an elitist thing. Hope you actually try the food at some point so you can realize how wrong you are.

@dexy - Personal attacks, condescension, and virtue signaling… All in one comment. You win! 👍 My reviews are not all one star. Maybe stop lying before you try bossing around people you don't know by telling them to stop doing things you don't like? I'm an immigrant myself btw… Will I get bonus points from you for that?
Read more@tonysnark - Seeing electronic payments as a "safety thing" is the epitome of the entitled laptop class thinking I was talking about. The taste of the food has nothing to do with my original comment. Your reaction only demonstrates how right I am.

You seem really combative and hyper critical of everyone but yourself.
Read moreThe owner is a first gen Mexican who imo caters of the Latinx community that grew up with these flavors. You’re biases of what you normally see as vegan (privileged, upper class, white) and assuming that this establishment gives a shit about that specific clientele over another, or that his decisions on running his business are based on that are moronic.
You likely don’t hold the same critiques for a Michelin star eatery with some bland European cuisine, but because it’s not you’re in your feelings about prices and forms of payment. You’re exactly the type of person the owner probably doesn’t want eating at his establishment to begin with so have fun missing out.

Smoky, flavorful pollo - Edit
The “pollo” here is pretty special. It’s a shredded soy protein with a seasoned, smoky flavor. I’m not a big fan of vegan “meats” but I really enjoyed the pollo plate. Their “refried” beans are also delicious and remind me of my Mom’s frijoles. They are slow cooked and mashed pinto beans with no added oil, according to the kind restaurant staffer we ordered from.

Big ass burritos - Edit
My boyfriend and I have been here twice and have been a fan of Raul's food since he was grilling on the streets
Read moreI really like the size of the burrito. My only complaints are the meats are hard to distinguish between each other. My boyfriend's carne asada and my chicharon burritos could not be told apart. Also my boyfriend ordered cheese in his burrito and could barely taste it.
