Vegan Tacos in Downtown Market - Edit
Grand Rapids’ Downtown Market is an experience worth visiting. It is an interior shopping mall of cuisine reminiscent of the Halles of Lyon in France. There are a multitude of restaurants to select all with a variety of styles of food.
Read moreTacos El Cunado is the resident Mexican restaurant option at the Downtown market. For a plant-based patron, they have a selection of fillings: tempeh, nopales (castus), and rice & beans. It is awesome to have options.
I selected three of the cactus tacos. It was great that they served vegan options and had them listed as such on their menu. The downside was that these were possibly the saltiest tacos I have ever tasted. It was so strong that it was almost unedible. I admit, this was my first time having cactus in a taco, and maybe they are supposed to be prepared this way.
I have not gone back to try the other options having had such a sad experience last time. If I return I will make sure to try the tempeh and revise my review.
Pros: Vegan options
Cons: Not entirely vegan, Salty cactus

Always looking for places with both vegan and carnivore options - Edit
So I went here with my meat eating family members multiple times and they absolutely love the pork tacos, pickled onions and salsa bar. I tried the rice and beans and nopales tacos last week and the rice and beans were solid. The nopales was SO spicy , I could not eat it. It looked like minced cactus and onion, but I feel like it was minced jalapeños and onions and no cactus. So I was upset for the price that it was inedible to me. The rice and beans tacos were fresh and filling.

Yum! - Edit
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here - they have many vegan and gluten-free options. Vegan options are labeled on the menu. I ordered two tacos - one nopales (cactus) and one tempeh - plus chips and guacamole. Everything was delicious. My family was happy with their non-veg options.
Read moreIt is a busy place (at the downtown market), but certainly worth it. There isn't much seating at the restaurant, but there is quite a bit of additional seating in the second floor of the market.
Pros: Vegan options, Gluten-free options
Cons: Busy

Great burrito - Edit
Had the tempeh burrito and it was fantastic. Also enjoy the non-veg options, being a non-veg, but I think the tempeh will be my default.
