Can't go wrong with either the mushroom or tofu tacos. Mushroom marinade flavor is quite good, but a bit rich--1 taco was plenty. Love the staff there, they are super friendly. Convenient spot downtown Durango. Although this area can be touristy the parking and access was easy.

While the veg menu isn’t terribly vast it is absolutely killer. Vegan Switchback fries are smothered in their cashew crema which is also a part of their elote (cup vs cob). The bean dip and chips is a go-to. The mushroom tacos were incredibly savory and spiced. Even someone who’s no fan of mushrooms will enjoy.

One of the most vegan-friendly restaurants in Durango - Edit
Switchback is one of the precious few spots in Durango that offers multiple vegan options and labels them clearly on the menu. We’ve tried all of them and everything is tasty. We particularly love the mushroom tacos and, when especially hungry, the loaded vegan switch fries. In mid-2023 they added a burrito to the menu, which can be made vegan on request (hold not only the dairy but also the rice, which is made with chicken stock), and which is pretty good (though smaller than Nini's down the street).
Read moreThere’s both indoor and outdoor dining, with patios in both front and back (depending on season). Note that if you sit inside they bring you water in glasses but outside they bring plastic cups instead, so we either sit inside or, when sitting outside, make a special request for glasses so we don’t waste plastic.
Service is generally good.

The menu identifies several vegan options. The beans are vegetarian, so other items could be made vegan by omitting cheese. The tofu is great and the mushroom taco is very good. The three tacos are enough to be a relatively light meal.

The Tofu and Mushroom tacos were super delicious and flavorful. The Vegan Switchfries were fantastic! We got them with the mushrooms. The fries are perfectly crispy and garlicky. Definitely recommend this place!

We had just about everything on the vegan menu and loved everything. Their pickle juice for their tequila shots is homemade and some of the best pickle juice I’ve ever had. The campfire old fashion comes with a marshmallow on top which needs to be removed to make it vegan, but the cocktail was fantastic. The switchback fries were really good. We added tofu and mushrooms to them and our daughter loved them. The tofu and mushrooms are a little spicy so if you don’t like spicy be wary. They have one main cashew sauce that they use throughout the vegan menu, but it is a good sauce. The staff is really nice and know what to do with vegans.

They have a section on their menu that is specifically titled “vegan dream menu”. Gotta give them 4 stars for thinking ahead. Love that their tofu is smoked and they offer portobello mushrooms without an added cost.

Get the vegan fries with the portobello mushrooms. Amazing. The portobello taco is to die for. Tofu is really good but very flavorful (might be overwhelming if you aren’t big on marinated tofu).

Our daughter is vegan. We decided to go for a walk downtown and see what was available. To our surprise we found this great place that wasn't listed on the cow! Wonderful experience, would go back weekly if we lived in the area.
