nearly complete vegan - Edit
The Sweet Beat Cafe is a vegetarian Cafe with a huge selection of vegan dishes. We had the granola and the breakfast burrito and also two smoothies. Everything was perfect and we really enjoyed our time here. Would be awesome if the cafe gets complete vegan! :)

A Gem For A Vegan Visiting Sligo - Edit
The food was delicious! We had the the banana bread and the breakfast burrito. It was a great place to have a proper meal as a vegan while visiting Sligo. The only reason I do not give it five stars was because the food was on expensive side (decent portions though!), and it could be a bit cleaner. The fridge with the takeaway was dirty as were many of the tables and chairs. All and all though a pleasant meal.

Good food, mostly smaller dishes. Disappointed that they aren't actually vegan though.

Lovely cafe but has dairy and charges for plant milk - Edit
I really like Sweet Beat and visit each time I come to Sligo but it is really disappointing to see so much cow milk being used on their coffee menu. This I can understand but to then charge extra for plant milk isn’t fair. Especially for a vegan cafe. Would love if they could improve this.

Tasty vegan brunch - Edit
We got the bircher porridge which was delicious and a generous portion, and a blueberry muffin. I also got an amazing and massive chocolate cookie! I omitted one star because we brought our baby and the place wasn't really accommodating to him in any way. It's a shame because they have a kids' menu so I thought it would be. I'd still probably go back...

Quick Lunch in Sligo Town - Edit
We stopped into this veggie cafe for a quick bite before heading on up to Donegal. There is a good selection on the menu and the food itself was decent enough. Lots of Gf Ve treats (the chocolate salted cookie is divine) and also had a selection of smoothies (didn’t try any of these though). Would recommend if you were in the area but maybe not as a destination itself.

Not vegan, but mainly plant-based - Edit
Only 4 out of 5 stars as not fully vegan (serves cow milk & sells products with beeswax in their shop). Also, their zero waste approach seems weird. They don't throw away water, etc so that's cool! But then they serve their coffee in paper cups and plastic lids for example. Not super coherent.
Read moreThe food was really good though! I had the 3-in-1 (soup, avo toast and salad) and my bf the breakfast burrito and we were reeeaallyyy happy with it! The snickers for dessert and the greens smoothie were also very tasty. Prices were OK too.
I definitely recommend this café, but you might be careful whether your food is fully vegan and not only plant-based.
Pros: Zero waste, Prices are ok, Tasty food
Cons: Plant-based, not vegan, No coherent zero waste approach, Ditch the milk and beeswax please

One of my favourite cafés in Ireland - Edit
Sweet Beat is one of my favourite cafés in Ireland, and I always visit when I'm in Sligo. Their breakfasts are really good, and filling. Coffee is decent, and probably the best I've had in Sligo.

Beautiful, reduced waste, vegetarian and vegan - Edit
They gave me a clean steel spoon instead of a disposable one. The Bircher was served in a paper cup with a plastic cap though unfortunately. But I like the trajectory of going towards minimal or zero plastic waste.

A little disappointing - Edit
I tried Sweet Beat a year or 2 ago to sit in and it was great! Had jackfruit tacos and a great coconut cappuccino.
Read moreSadly I went to Sweet Beat for takeaway last week and it was a bit disappointing. We ordered a sandwich, scone, muffin, blondie, tea and a coconut cappuccino. The only really good thing was the sandwich which was vegan cheese with cucumber and some kind of pickle. Probably not to everyone's taste but I really enjoyed it!
I was really looking forward to my first post-lockdown coffee but it was unfortunately not great. I know coconut milk can sometimes be hard to froth but there was zero froth on the coffee, and it tasted watery and weak. My mum said even the tea was pretty poor and neither of us finished them.
The lemon and poppyseed scone was quite nice but could be more lemony!
Mum got a blueberry muffin which she said tasted really like banana and also had chocolate as well as blueberries, which was a bit of a strange combination.
The blondie was quite nice but had raspberries and chocolate chunks in it and that combo just isn't to my taste. But I'm sure it would be more enjoyable to others :)
The other thing I'll say is that the term plant-based confuses me a little. The first time I visited, i asked if everything was vegan and was told yes. This time, the lady working at the till offered us dairy milk. I was also given a tub of jam for my scone which had a lump of real butter in it. I was a bit confused and then concerned that what I'd eaten wasn't vegan. But as far as I can tell, everything is vegan apart from the option of dairy milk and butter.
That being said, the staff were friendly and the location is great. It's nice to have somewhere to stop in Sligo! Although i was disappointed with the last visit, I'd definitely give the café another chance as we can all have off days.
Pros: Price, Staff, Variety
Cons: Confusion about 'plant-based' , Lack of flavour/odd flavour combinations

Great food, place is freezing - Edit
The cafe has just reopened after the diner shut down and they closed temporarily, which was a shame. The food is still lovely although there seemed to be less hot food than previous visits which I'd favour. The place is currently super cold however, there were people sitting in coats and hats. We waited a half hour for a coffee to arrive after asking a couple of time and had to go downstairs then to get some sugar. No salt and pepper upstairs either. Just small details that could be helped along with sorting the heat out so customers are comfortable. Tried a chocolate cake which was lovely.

Nothing beats it! - Edit
One of my all-time favourite places to eat. The avo toast with hummus haunts my dreams on the regular. The place is cute and quirky and has extra seating upstairs (although it’s always very busy!!). The staff are lovely and friendly and the food is delicious. They do food to-go too. Also love the fact they use metal straws and are just really environmentally conscious in general (it was the first ever restaurant I visited with metal straws). Gorgeous flower arrangements on the tables. I’m actually hungry thinking about the place ugh

Delicious vegan food — cafe is not vegan - Edit
Food and service were amazing and I would definitely go back. But as a heads up they are not 100% vegan which is the reason for the 4 stars. They serve milk for coffee. They may use milk in other things, I didn’t ask, but it didn’t appear that way. We did ask why they serve milk and they said it’s because being that they are on the west coast of Ireland a lot of people ask for regular milk. If you’re in the area, don’t hesitate to support this local business as they have tons of vegan options and their zero waste initiatives are fantastic. Just note that you should ask about what is and isn’t vegan since they do advertise as a vegan place but are not in fact 100% vegan. I hope they reconsider their choice to serve milk in the future.
