The best restaurant in Greensville

Everything is fabulous! I tell the owners I am vegan and they make sure everything I order is vegan or modified. I love their daily plates that are like sampler platters. They every have a small store.

Pros: Mostly vegan, Friendly staff, Amazing food

More than worth it

What is there to say? The food is out of this world: I have yet to have anything here I don't love. The people are very friendly and accommodating, and it's all vegetarian and mostly vegan. Hands down my favorite spot in Greenville.

Pros: Food is delicious, Lots of food for not a lot of money, Wonderful people

Cons: Some styrofoam

*Update at bottom*

We were in the area for my husbands work and saw the good reviews on happy cow and decided to check it out. It is a bit of a hole in the wall, but the food is absolutely delicious. We ordered the samosas and some other appetizer recommended, the garlic naan vegan and I had Channa masala (my go to dish at any Indian restaurant) and he ordered the kofta. Everything was SO good. I’ve never had garlic naan before because typically it’s not vegan, but I told the owner I was vegan and he said he would make sure everything we got was vegan. Everyone was very friendly and the service was great. The owner even tried to make my fussy toddler happy. Wish we lived in Greenville because I’d be back all the time. If we’re ever in the area again we will definitely make sure to eat there. The best Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to.

Two years later October 2021 we came back to the area again and were excited to eat here again. Unfortunately our experience was not as good. We ordered all the same food and the food was not very good this time. Channa masala was watery, the aloo tiki appetizer was ok but cold (not sure if this is how it’s supposed to be?), the garlic nan was a tiny portion and it was microwaved and chewy. The kofta was ok but not great. The samosas were great but that was the only good thing we had. We ended up ordering our kids the veggie burger because the other food was too spicy. The burger was a bit spicy too and it was more like a pancake than a burger. We were also told that the fries couldn’t be made because they would take too long. It’s unfortunate because it was so good in 2019, but not so this time. The older man that is the owner was also not very friendly and quite grumpy. Maybe it was an off day or maybe it has gone down hill.

Affordable and Delicious

This place is extremely good, hole in the wall, with delicious food. The staff is always great when I go. They don’t serve any meat here so everything is either vegan or vegetarian which is amazing.

Pros: Tons of delicious vegan options , Affordable , Family owned

Don’t judge a book by its cover

Dynamite food with helpful owners. Came in a little confused as to what to order and they just brought out a bunch of vegan options. Everything was delicious. I even stocked up on some spices from their market section.

Pros: Lots of options, Helpful owners, Market pantry

Small place but good service and food

We missed it while going down the street as it is hidden in a small strip mall. Homey experience, it felt like eating with family. Good food and friendly owners.

Pros: Everything vegetarian and Vegan

Amazing Food

We went to Greenville on vacation. SWAD popped up on Happy Cow so we decided to eat there. Oh my gosh! The food was amazing. It's literally some of the best food I've eaten. We ordered an appetizer. I don't remember what it was called, but it was like a cracker loaded with stuff. I ordered the baked eggplant dish and enjoyed it.

The food was so amazing we ate there again right before heading home. On our second trip we tried the thali and the sweet bread. So amazing. Prices were fair. Service was good.

Pros: Amazing Food, Great Service, Fair Prices/ Cheap

Cons: Not closer to where I live.

Spicy

Pretty good. Cute little place. The samosas were delicious but I would’ve enjoyed it more if I got a heads up on the menu about how spicy the chutney was!!!

Get food

The is one of my favorite restaurants. I probably never would have went except that I read the reviews on happy cow. I love the atmosphere. It’s a little hole in the wall, it’s just a really cool place. The food is amazing.

1st time visit

Mom and pop establishment. Hole in the wall type atmosphere. Service was friendly and prompt. Food was quite flavorful. Mostly vegetarian but plenty of Vegan options. We ended up ordering Samosas, Chana masala and Bendhi Masala. Had a mango smoothie for dessert. Definitely a positive experience and will be back!

Friendly and Delicious

I went to Swad with my mother while visiting Greenville because we're always on the hunt for indian food. I absolutely loved the Thali which is listed on the menu as available as vegan. It consisted of green beans, kidney beans, dal, papad, roti and rice. It was amazing and just the right amount of spice (I like things on the spicier side). The staff is so friendly and super knowledgeable when it comes to veganism. I can't wait to go back!

Pros: Delicious , Friendly , Knowledgeable

The owners make you feel so comfortable with the menu. When ordering vegan they will give you peace of mind. The food was so delicious and very authentic, indian-style. You can share with the table like you're supposed to.

Pros: Vegan Options, Authentic

Good Vegetarian Restaurant

My wife and I dined here last year. There are so few completely vegetarian restaurants in Upstate SC, so we were excited about this place. Neither of us (at that time) were very familiar with Indian fare, but the staff (owners?) were very friendly and took the time to explain the menu to us.
I thought that the food was fantastic. Unfortunately , it was way too spicy for my wife, so we haven't been back, but I would definitely eat here again if in the area by myself.

Pros: Price, Attentive staff, Family owned atmosphere

Cons: May be too spicy for delicate palates

My favorite local restaurant

Great food that never disappoints! Everything is vegetarian, and if the staff knows you're vegan (my boyfriend is they always remember), they will make sure your food is vegan, and doubtless they'll remember next time you come. They have a great Thali that I almost always get, and it's a big meal! The environment can be a little jarring to some people, as it's half-restaurant, half-grocery store, and little bit like you're sitting in someone's living room. Some people might consider this a con but I think of it as part of its quirky charm.

Pros: helpful staff, many options, great value

Cons: small dining room

Great food, hilarious staff!

I haven't eaten at many Indian restaurants, so cannot compare. When you walk in, it smells like home cooking.

We enjoyed the food - great variety, with many options. The gentleman who served us really made the meal memorable. He was so funny and kind... very grandfatherly, and in a way that had us laughing throughout our dinner.

My only suggestion is that if you really can't take spice, tell them you want all of your food "mild".

Gotta Try It!

This is definitely a tiny place, but the staff is friendly. I went with my parents for our first visit, and the owner came to our table to explain how they cooked all of our dishes and to check on how we were doing. We all prefer mild food, and they made sure nothing was too spicy for us. I'll be going back!

Pros: Good service, Interesting grocery items

Cons: Small, Bright lighting
