Not good, and not all-vegan either

Having contacted the company for clarification, it transpires that they once had two branches in Hackney's Graham Road: an all-vegan at 240 Graham Road, and a regular at 218 Graham Road. The vegan-only branch at 240 Graham Road that this listing describes has closed. I went to the one at 218 Graham Road, so I was disappointed to discover it was a regular fish and chip shop, serving fish, and pork, and so on.

I still ordered, but I wish that I hadn't. The famed banana blossom fish had an interesting texture, and the batter was good and crispy - but the inside tasted of nothing really, other than vague unpleasantness. I didn't finish it. It's nothing on Birmingham's Veggie Chippy, for example. The chips were pretty decent - but there's really no need to visit here for the vegan fish. The excellent Temple of Seitan is just across the street, and I've been there many times. This will be my first and last trip to Sutton & Sons.

Pros: A full vegan menu

Cons: Pretty gross fake fish, Disappointment that the vegan branch closed

10/10 vegan lobster roll and calamari

This is a great spot for vegan fish and chips with way more veggie seafood options than I've ever seen. If this place was in Dublin it would be HOPPING 24/7. The staff were really friendly and helpful even though it was super busy, the calamari and lobster roll really hit the spot and came with a generous portion of chips. The only thing I would say is that the vegan tartar sauce could do with a little more dill!

Pros: Huge variety of vegan fish and seafood, Very friendly staff , Great and satisfying food

Poor experience

We tried these guy in January. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. The two fellows working there looked like they wanted to be anywhere but at work. It was rather sad. The tables were filthy and sticky. Still, we hoped the food would be good. The chips were decent, but no need to travel across London for them. The banana blossom “fish” was awful. There was almost no breading on the blossom, and worse, no seasoning or flavor other than a vaguely floral flavor. I’ve had some very nice tofish in other places, so I know you can bread and season tofu nicely, so there’s no reason why the lovely texture of banana blossom can’t also be made to taste good. A sad disappointment.

Lovely place

Delicious vegan fried chicken in many versions, burger, hot dog etc. Must go.

Are you sure you're not referring to Temple Of Seitan / Temple Of Hackney nearby? This was a vegan fish and chip shop, no chicken (real or vegan) on the menu!

worth trying

this place is the vegan branch of a fish and chips located further in the street, that's not at all vegan; just so you know that they are not vegan entrepreneurs, rather opportunistic business people. (So it'd be unfair to give them five stars, right?)
Fair enough though, they know their chips, after all.

Pros: creative and tasty food

Cons: not a vegan business

Not a vegan branch any more either, they've started doing real fish and real meat.

Wonderful!

Have been excited about this place and finally made it along. No nonsense vegan ‘fish’ and chip shop with some great options. Pay no attention to the bad reviews, the food is great! The banana blossom was a revelation! I’ll be back until I’ve eaten everything on the menu, and forever there after...

Pros: Tasty food , Great options

Cons: None!

Do pay attention to the bad reviews, dear reader - I wish I had before I wasted my time visiting today! Pay attention to all the reviews, and decide whether you want to go. And now it's no longer vegan-only, serving real fish and real meat, it's lost some of what little lustre it ever had.

No no no

I was very excited about the concept but they got it all wrong. We tried both the fish and the scampi. No fish or sea flavours at all. No seasoning. Chips and fries are good and so are the sauces. Good friendly staff.

Pros: Good chips, Friendly staff, Large portions

Cons: Disappointing fishes

The best burger ever 😍

Super consigliato

Pros: 100% Vegano!, Economico, Team disponibile e gentile

Could be improved

The scampi is chinese veggie prawns with minimal batter, and extremely overpriced. I liked the fake fish made from banana blossom though it could have been bigger and been seasoned better. The battered sausage was extremely tasty.

The worse vegan fish and chips in London

Tasteless “fish”. No seasoning. It should be wrapped in sea weed to give it a fish taste. A vegan fish and chips shop is a great idea, but it should be done properly. Places like this give vegan food a bad name.

Pros: All vegan, Good chips , Good garlic mayo

Cons: Tasteless , Not cheap, Small

Disappointing

We were super excited to go to this place after having tried the vegan banana blossom fish and chips in Nourish in Bath (which was absolutely delicious, looked, flaked and tasted like the real thing).

At Sutton and Sons however it seemed like the chef had no idea how to make it. The banana blossom fish looked more like fried chicken, wasn’t seasoned at all and just tasted like fried plant. Really disappointing. None of us finished it.

The chips were good though. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Winner 🏆

100% Vegan Fish & Chips shop just needed to happen in the UK. I gave Vegan scampi a go and it taste so similar to the real ones. Fish cake was so good too.

It’s basically a really great fish and chip shop but better (cause it’s vegan). All condiments are so authentic!
