Great lunch, odd venue - Edit

Once you have found it, this is a great place for lunch. It is out of the town centre but still on the tourist route as it is close to the Hofoi House (Reagan/ Gorbachev talks 1986 etc etc) and the sea front. We called in on the way back from the wonderful lido (yes, open air swimming in sub-zero temps and geo-thermal hot tubs, yay). They are geared to take-aways for the local office workers but have a couple of tables. Its a weird venue. A concrete bunker at the base of a swish office block. Low rent I guess. They have opened another outlet in the town centre so the formula must work.
The food is very good, they cook a small menu very well. There is a choice of two soups with sourdough bread. They sometimes do a casserole but these are very quickly sold out.
The prices are very reasonable for Iceland ie under a tenner.
No frills, good basic food.

Pros: good basic veggie fare, Reasonable price.

Cons: Not easy to find. look for the big no.86 on Borgar

An exemplary lunch break place - Edit

This soup bar located on the ground floor of what appears to be an office building offers six kinds of soups, three of which are vegan. Menu only in Icelandic, but the owner will explain to you gladly what's on there.
Soups are good. The bread is to point out, it's amazing (big slices, too)! Apart from that there are only beverages, that's it.
The place is unappealing though. Mainly for workers at lunch break. No place to stay longer (although there are few tables). Comparatively inexpensive (for Iceland). Nothing for big appetite though.

Pros: good food, great bread, helpful and friendly staff

Cons: unappealing venue, limited seating

The man working, probably the owner, was very nice! He let us have some extra soup at no extra cost. He was very nice and modestly declined a tip. The food was amazing!!! It's right by the 10-11. We will be back mulitple times throughout our stay.

Pros: Quiet, Good service , Good food

Delicious soup and bread - Edit

A little hard to find - you need to go in to a lobby through revolving doors, and there is no sign outside. Friendly pleasant service, at least two vegan options. Reasonably priced. Also note the hours, this is strictly a lunchtime option 10am to 3pm.
