Disappointing food at exorbitant prices - Edit

We were so keen for this place after spotting it in our neighbourhood, but the food wasn't for us. Way too much going on without the right balance of flavours and unimpressive vegan options, ie. sloppy and tasteless. It felt like eating something that hadn't been tasted and verified as edible. Left 3/4 of it behind.

love it here - Edit

I’ve never had the time issues others seem to have and the burgers are great. I’m a big fan and never had a bad meal here.

Amazing food - Edit

While it's not the healthiest as far as vegan food goes sugar shack delivers on taste. The burgers are incredible and the freak shake is a must try. Separate vegan menu with loads of options makes it easy. Highly recommend!

Abusive and indifferent service - Edit

My partner and I have eaten at Sugar Shack many times over the past couple of years. Sometimes the food is amazing, but it's inconsistent and patchy. On occasion it's been absolutely woeful.

The service is always slow, but at least it's reliably slow and you can plan around that by ordering 45-60 minutes in advance of when you want to eat. Sometimes it takes a bit longer, but it's easy enough to deal with”.

All of that is manageable when things are going right, but it all falls apart when there's a problem. Twice we've had problems with our order and the response has been equally aggressive and completely indifferent, including a giggling "well what do you want me to do about it?” before being aggressively sworn at and told never to order from them again. This seems to be a trend looking at what others have experienced in reviews here and elsewhere.

It’s a real shame. The vegan menu is amazing and I commend them for the huge range, but it’s really not worth the roll of the dice given how expensive it is and the likelihood of being abused when anything goes wrong. And it seems like that happens a lot.

I can only wonder how the staff are treated.

Won’t return - Edit

Quite disappointed by Sugar Shack. The food looks like it has potential to be wonderful, and am glad they offer so many vegan options, but the service undermines it all.
The first time I attempted to go here the poor woman who was running it (alone) practically begged us not to order anything because she was overrun with Uber eats.
The second time, I paid over $25 in parking because the food took 50 minutes, the people who came in after us got their food first, and then we had to remind them that we ordered (so they only started our food at the 40 min mark), when the food came out they had my order totally wrong and said ‘well this one probably cost more’ when I enquired about it.
Felt sorry for the employees that night too, the bosses seemed to blame them for mishaps which should’ve been avoided generally.

Hopefully they will improve in the next year or so, but I likely won’t be coming back.

Sad but true - Edit

OK so picture this, lovely cool, rockabilly interior and music.. I was expecting a restaurant / diner but was surprised to find a small take out venue.. As you eat there are other people virtually on top of you from every angle possible. The staff are unfriendly and didn't even provide me with cutlery... The food- was over priced and sloppy.. Both my Burger and fries we're both just mainly piles of slop.. Not easy to eat but the flavors were nice. Soooo much potential but sadly not being optimized.

Pros: Great varied large vegan menu, Vegan deserts!

Cons: Venue too small, Too expensive for what it was, Badly presented

Yummy food but... - Edit

The Vegan tofu burger was amazing, however probably wont go back again because there are a few negatives. It is very pricey ($53 for 2 burgers, a side of fries and a shake), service is slow and staff are rude. Also 2 of the 3 dishes came out with long hairs in them.

good menu but some cons - Edit

Loved my burger although on the small side, especially for the price. Milkshake same price as main meal so we didn't try one. Lots of vegan options on a separate menu, burgers, tacos, salad, fries, milkshakes, cupcakes etc

Only been once but every single glass for the water was dirty and that really grossed me out. Hopefully they will get better at checking if stuff is clean. Had to go without water :/

Pros: lots of vegan options

Cons: dirty cups , staff unfriendly

Amazing! - Edit

we went there after finding out about this place via Facebook. my vegan bf and I ordered the southern fried tofu burger with curly fries and onion rings. they offer gluten free pattys and buns as well as vegan cheese.
the diner is super cozy and cute, staff is very friendly and helpful. they are interested in veganism and vegan food. they have an entire vegan menu!
for dessert we had the Oreo freak shake with a gluten free brownie and the hot brownie an ice cream set. everything was suoer filling, huge portions and it tasted soooo good! we will definitely come back. only downside are the prices, 2$ for vegan cheese and 3$ for gluten free buns. but it's worth it!

Pros: many vegan options, good portions, super nice diner

Cons: not cheap
