Cute restaurant

Easy to locate and a very cute spot. 3 tables inside. Food was tasty but I regret not asking if the food contains MSG because my spicy tofu was laced with it. Nothing against MSG it just doesn’t agree with me and it’s worth asking before you order. Helps if you have Alipay to read the menu other the staff will help. Near Jiatong
University metro.

Pros: Cute, Tasty

Cons: MSG

Great variety of healthy dishes

Easy to find and with a great variety of dishes. The menu for food and drinks is online (scan the barcode at the table). Nobody speaks english but communication is easy with the staff via smartphone and translation app.
I strongly recommend it if you are nearby. 🌱♥️

Tasty food and Beautiful decor

The zen flows all around this place while you sit and enjoy delicious local dishes. Owners helped me choose the right amount to order. They also politely discouraged my desire to go too carb heavy by ordering buns, noodles, and rice 😂. They advised me on some vegetables like lotus root, and I still got some good bready buns stuffed with veggies!

Pros: Friendly staff , Great ambiance , Healthy

Cons: Only WeChat ordering

Amazing Potatoes

If you take exit 7 at Jiaotong University metro, on lines 10 & 11, and walk straight ahead with the road on your left, this place is at the end of the buildings down the lane on the right, the Veg Inn sign is right there to see next to the door. We were warmly greeted and seated upstairs, it is like a house transformed into a restaurant, but there are surprisingly plenty of seats & it was busy considering this was late by lunch standards. My assistant spoke to the waiter, he showed us a menu on his phone for us to choose from. We had lotus root in chilli oil, it was a cold dish & a bit too spicy for my British palette. The fried rice was perfect, not greasy and very tasty, but for me the spicy potatoes were the best, crisp roast slices of potato in a amazingly tasty seasoning, I'll be going back just for these. The place has a lovely tranquil feel & the food is delicious, I look forward to eating here again.
Glad to see this place is still open having not been here for way over a year. We arrived just after 8pm so only ordered 3 simple dishes. You have to scan the QR code at your table & order via the online menu, there are pictures if you don't read Chinese. We had greens which were fresh & tasty, as were the spring rolls. What I thought was noodles turned out to be shredded bean curd with peppers & coriander, it was spicy but not too much. I need to come back here more often.

Brilliant if in the area

This place is brilliant if you are in the area. Worth making your way there if you are in french concession. Had a noodle soup, their vegan chorizo and some fake beef stir fried strips. Was amazing! Very reasonable prices

Pros: All vegan so you’re safe despite language barrier

Cons: No English menu , Order with app only I guess

Cosy vegan food

Easy to find if you follow the directions in the reviews. Lots of choices. The rice dish was especially good. Very fair prices and definitely worth a visit if in the area. Service was brilliant, but you have to use an app to order the food. We had the whole place to ourselves and it was incredible cosy.

Emergency vegan Eating place

Just friendly stuff, but no menue english map, just unclear options (size, integr.).

Selection is done by smartphone with chinese text and pictures.

wifi possible after request.

2 Options and one drink: 90 RMB.

The POI in openstreetmap is correct, the integrated Google Map in happyCow is wrong.

Great people, great food.

All vegan, no egg or meat stock, very clean tasting Plant based dishes, Rice is great, cumin potatoes, stir fried greens, moch meat in different sauces. Menu is on an app, you can't see whats in it, buts that's part of the fun, tasted great every time. Price is worth it for sure. About 95 yuan for a full meal (3 dishes) lots of different options!

The place is a little hidden inside a building complex, small entrance. Nice home style vibe to it. Tasted mery much like a home cooked meal.

Nice cultural experience

A very authentic place, the crew are very kind and helpful.
A lot of fake meat dishes and vegetable based ones, some kinds of rice and soups.
Ask about every dish if it's spicy or not, since many of them are quite hot!

The food:
1. Sausage: a little dry but has a nice smoky-sweet taste, and reminds meat texture for whoever miss that.
2. Mock meat dish with vagetables: very good, two kinds of fake meat inside with vegetables and peanuts. Pretty spicy!
3. Tofu proteins ("chicken") soup: some kind of tofu pieces in a delicious soup. The tofu reminds scrambled eggs texture very much, I liked it a lot.
4. Different kinds of rice: nice side dishes but with not a lot of flavour.
5. Spiced potatoes: very well done dish, the spices on the potatoes are great and freshy, perfect side dish next to mock meat.

Prices are pretty fair, not so low but worth it all.

Expect the good food, the whole place is pretty magical and fills like eating in a real budahist temple.
Very recommanded!

Pros: Many kinds of mock meats, Magical atmosphere

Cons: Many spicy dishes, Not very cheap

Chinese vege food

Very tasty Chinese food! We had a variety of mock meat, vegetable dishes and noodles and everything was delicious. The staff are very nice.

Cosy atmosphere suitable for solos or couples.

Down a side street, under some construction scaffolding (dec 2018).

Pros: Food full of flavour , Great range to choose from

Great food

Have been here several times now. Initially it was had to find as it is deep on the edge of a corner street. Was skeptical to walk in as it looked like someone’s home. Wife that works here speaks some English.. whole menu is on WeChat so make sure you have the app. Food was delicious!! Have been back several times and will be returning before I leave Shanghai!

Great for small groups

Every time I go I like everything I try. I bring groups of 6-8 people so that we order many dishes and try different things.
Although I love the challenge of reading their handwritten menu in Mandarin, sometimes I just have no time and ask for the menu with the English translation. Note that this menu has probably been translated with Baidu so a few names look awful, but at least you know the main ingredients. Their aubergines and veggie stir fried rice are always on our table.
The staff is very nice and attentive to any request. Since the place is very small, it never gets too crowded, which is great for group privacy.
The only thing I did not enjoy much was a mock meat sausage dish, but that might be because I never enjoyed real sausages in the past either, my friends liked it.
They sell some herbs and spices downstairs by the cashier.

Pros: quiet, good for small groups

Cons: not for very tall people

Literally my favourite restaurant of all time

I really cannot overstate how much I love this place. I've been there around about six times now and it has been consistently amazing each time. The faux meat is absolutely fantastic, the best I've ever had. That said, for those that don't enjoy the taste of fake meat there is also plenty of delicious vegetable dishes. A seemingly spectacular demonstration of just how good vegetarian/vegan Chinese cuisine can get.

Note that for those who don't speak or read Chinese there is now a menu that you can look at on WeChat which also has pictures of all the dishes.

Pros: Absolutely amazing food, Very reasonably priced, Welcoming staff

Cons: English menu requires WeChat

Average

I didn't really like my mushroom dish with pine nuts. Our daughter loved the sausage and cucumber dish she had. My husband had the pepper steak. I wasn't a fan but he liked it okay. It is very close to our hotel and we love to support veg restaurants so we may try it again. If we do I'll give the curry veggies a whirl.

Pros: staff very nice

nice owner

The description above says there's a picture menu, but when I went earlier this month (June 2015) there wasn't one. The owner explained that there used to be one, on his iPad, but one day his iPad went missing (someone might've walked away with it?), and since then he hasn't had a chance to do up a new photo menu.

They have a non-photo menu, with a lot of items on it, but all in Chinese. If you can, go with someone who can decipher it for you!

To get there, from Jiaotong Uni metro station (Lines 10 & 11), take exit 7 and it's a short walk north. On the right you'll come to a parking gate (see photo), go through there. You'll see Coolzy Pizza on the right, and Veg Inn is next to it.

The place is small, with seating for only ten. It's a no smoking place, and there's free wifi!

Pros: friendly owner who speaks some English, no smoking, free wifi

Cons: no menu in English
