They do some great western-style vegan breakfast dishes, in both sweet and savoury options. Fully vegetarian but not fully vegan.

Excellent lunch and friendly service - Edit
4/6/22 I came back for breakfast today. I had the waffles and they were so good! The meringue and lemon curd were also delicious. I also got the reboot juice which was the most amazing juice. The coffee was great too
Read moreI came here for lunch and it wasn’t long from closing time so we got a table and were served promptly. I ordered a bannutter smoothie. I really liked that all the smoothies were vegan. I couldn’t decide between the menu items but when I saw they had soup as a special, I had to order that. It came with a piece of bread. I liked the flavour of the soup and the toast was lovely too. The staff were so kind. I asked for a vegan cake to take away and I just finished eating it which was delicious. Really enjoyed my visit and the cafe seating is great

Good breakfast - Edit
The cafe was already packed when we arrived around 8:30am, so we were seated at the table in the back. The person serving us was friendly and service was quick. I ordered the granola ($15), which was generally quite good and not overly sweet, but had about five huge chunks of dried fruit - pineapple, apple and grapefruit - which I found unpleasant in texture and flavour. One of my companions couldn’t finish his waffles, so I did and they were delicious ($16.50); but I tried another companions’s brown rice and buckwheat porridge ($17) and it was not.

Good coffee - Edit
Fantastic coffee, lots of vegan options, and the meals are a good size. A good variety of both savoury and sweet brunch options. Some of the cakes in the cabinet are vegan, just ask the staff to point out which. The brownie was lovely, but we found the coffee walnut cake very mushy

A vegetarian cafe with plenty of vegan options, Straight Up is worth revisiting— we went there twice during our short stay in Hobart. The beans on toast with sauerkraut was great, as well as the soba noodle dish. Most desserts are vegan and also gluten-free, and the coffee is very good.
