Vegan Junkfood!!! - Edit

Loud and dark. Its a bar. If I want some fried food this is my choice. The "chicken" wings are good. As is the faux meat Philly cheese steak...dairy or vegan cheese available. I agree with the other reviewers that Stella's used to be better.

Not Impressed - Edit

When Stella's first opened the atmosphere was gimmicky and over-the-top, but it boasted a largely vegan menu and cheap drink specials. Having gone there several times during this period, I will say that their food was good, but not great. The prices were a tad high, and the quality was lacking. They also earned a reputation among my friends and I as having some of the worst waiting service in town. It took forever for anyone to come to our table, and when they did, it took them forever to get the order in.

Now Stella's has rebooted their menu, with higher prices and much less vegan food. Now most of their food options are either stuff with cheese or loaded with bacon, or both. I won't be making it a point to go back.

Cons: Prices, Bad Waitstaff, Food quality

Stella's Lounge Rocks - Edit

I'm a sucker for vintage arcade games. Put me in front of a Ms.PacMan and I'm entertained for hours. Add in Galaga, Centipede, Astroids, The Simpson's pinball machine and drinks and I'm one happy camper.

The vegan food was on the greasy side, but I was happy to see so many vegan offerings. I wouldn't come here for the food. I'd come here as somewhere fun to hang out with the added bonus that if you're hungry you can get something.

Note that I haven't been to Stella's since the menu change and bacon popcorn (yuck!) mentioned in the review below mine. So take this review with a grain of salt, and if you go to Stella's please post a review on Happycow so we can keep tabs on this place.

Changes - Edit

I used to LOVE Stella's and would go there every week or two. After they started messing with their hours things started to change ...for the worse. Vegans can't want lunch downtown, can they?

Prices went up to 12 dollars for a burger and fries, in which the vegan burger doesn't hold together after the first bite. Now you can also be treated to the smell of bacon popcorn....ick! Wrote to ask what was with the changes and got a snotty reply. Don't bother I'm not sure they will have much for vegan/veg to eat for much longer.

Its sad to see a good place go so far downhill!

Pros: Poor man's wings, cheap beer

Cons: price gone up, parking not avaliable or $7, Kids during the day

vegan food! whiskey! arcade games! great music! - Edit

I like Stella's even though they have meat on their menu.

The Refuse/Resist is one of my favorite menu items: scrambled tofu between two pieces of french toast, served with spicy potatoes. YEAH BOY! Its really good on those days when you sleep in until 11. Coffee is good with it, although I'm sure beer would be great too.

Most of the vegan sandwiches are good but could but could be much BIGGER.

The Poor Mans Wings (apparently they are called Blessed Black Wings now?) are excellent. They are basically like potato wedges slathered in BBQ sauce (my favorite), although you can get them mild or hot (which is really, REALLY hot and made me cry a little). FANTASTIC WITH BOOZE.

The onion rings are good and greasy.

They've got all the great arcade games. Pinball of course. They play the Smiths a lot, which I like. They have nice drink specials.

Pros: vegan food, good service, arcade games

Cons: not a vegetarian restaurant

Food is greasy and a bit gross - Edit

The food is greasy and a bit gross, but well priced. The atmosphere is a bar and very relaxed/hip. Only the devil masks are a bit odd.
Unless you are going there for the atmosphere, don't bother going for the food. (sad to say)

Pros: Price, Atmosphere

Cons: Taste, Greasy, Gross

Sorta sketchy, but good food - Edit

The location is hard to find. They have a sign on the street that is linked to the address, but the actual entrance is in the back alley. The building is painted with skulls, and looks like a hard-core bar or night club. It's very dark inside, and one wall is covered entirely with an alcohol bar. The menu is hard to read, due to the non-contrast between font colour and background colour.
The hot dog was good; the taco salad was good; the sandwich with artichoke hearts was good. Good beer, good onion rings, nice service. Cool arcade games.
Over-all, good food. Would definitely go back.

Pros: very good food, nice staff, easy parking

Cons: sketchy location, too dark, hard-to-read menu

Cool Place! - Edit

My fiancé and i recently went here. It's all vegan except for a grilled cheese sandwich and a small section of burgers call the "pet cemetery". the onion rings were awesome. we had the eggplant and "bacon" sandwich and a buffalo "chicken" sandwich and both were delicious. the sandwiches came with there homemade chips. everything was great and we will be going back a lot i am sure. also, lots of cool arcade games in the back like a scary funhouse pinball machine and ms. packman to boot!

Pros: tasty, fast

Cons: hipsters
