Several Vegan Options - Edit
I LOVE jackfruit, so when I saw it on the menu, I got it! I was originally going to get the jackfruit in a brioche bun, but after checking, learned it wasn't vegan.
Read moreAlthough I wasn't able to get my original jackfruit meal like I planned, I instead got the jackfruit from the smoker along with two sides. I'm not a big bbq sauce fan, so I didn't add a sauce, which was a bummer because the jackfruit was a bit dry. My server was very kind and helpful the entire time, especially when I chose sides. I got the tater tots and green beans, which they made vegan, originally containing bacon, substituted for yummy walnuts and garlic on top! In my tater tots I accidentally received three corn fritters, two of which I bit into, which probably weren't vegan. :/
Just wish they would label and add more vegan options.

Awesome place where Omnivores & Vegans can be friends. - Edit
Veg & Vegan Beer Drinkers of Knox County Rejoice!
Read moreThis is the place for you. I had a mixed grill of omnivore, ovo-lacto veg & vegan (or purely plant-based as they are calling it these days), house-baked beans, Mac & Cheese, and Smoked Jackfruit (slow-smoked in the smoker just like its meaty cousins). And it all was awesome. As was each of the beers in my flight. From low number to high... ALL House Brewed... Prohibition Crusader, Kölsch, Pils, Weiss & IPA, each a prize-worthy sampling that rightfully garners the name of its genre. So, if you are within reasonable driving distance of this county seat gem, get there as fast & as often as you can.
And... it is SO worth the trip.
Pros: Beer!, Tasty Vegan Options, Friendly Location at The Opera House
Cons: Not all veg options clearly marked, Beans flavored with meat taking away a veg item , Can’t think of a third

Rural Veg Options - Edit
Mount Vernon isn't a place were you would expect to see a vegetarian section on their menu, but luckily Stein Brewing Company surprised us! While nothing is labeled as vegan, a few of the items were apparent on how they could be altered to be made vegan. While our waitress was not the most knowledgeable about ingredients, she was helpful! And their menu didn't have just a boring black bean burger- there's jackfruit, a Beyond Burger, smoked tofu and even tempeh! If you're wondering about your side item- 100% go for the fries. So good!
