Guacamole and chips taste great but the guacamole quantity was pretty small. With how many avocados are around I was a little disappointed. I got a mixed veggie/rice/tofu dish that was a bit bland. They had a house made hot sauce that I drenched it in to make up for that. I ate upstairs and it was nice to look out over everything that was going on. Friendly staff.

We do have a wide range of veg/vegan food with the choice of adding tempeh/seitan then choosing one of our many amazing sauces, our flavor is Indo-Caribbean with an Asia flair.
Hopefully you can rectify the mistake and if ever you’re in town come enjoy the real Stashus Con Fusion cuisine.

The flavors are vibrant and unique here, well executed dish and really good. The fruit used for presentation does not pair well with the food though so a little questionable, overall they have a lot of options here and the food is good.

amazing Caribbean/Indian fusion cuisine - Edit
This amazing restaurant is not on the main drag and probably doesn't get the patronage it deserves. The restaurant is on the second floor over looking Playa Puerto Viejo and is completely open to the outside. Every main dish is based around the sauce, and can be made as either chicken, fish or veggie, so any of the main dishes can be vegan by just ordering the veggie option. The owners are super friendly and spend most of the evening talking to the guests and serving. She is Canadian and he's from Guyana, and they both speak English fluently. The plates arrive quickly and the presentation is gorgeous. They can make each dish as spicy as you like, and they have a delicious home-made fusion hot sauce to spice it up further, if you prefer. Each plate is a mound of food, so come hungry. I had the Thai citrus peanut sauce over veggie stir fry which came with brown rice, pickled beet slice, sauteed plantain slice and a slice of watermelon. So yummy and filling. It was all I could do to finish it all. They also make killer pina coladas and mango coladas.

Great for a nice night out in Puerto Viejo. So many options. I was able to add a house-made tempeh to my veggie stir fry! A bit pricey but the portions are massive so I’d say it was worth it.

I had the Carribean curry and WOW! Every vegetable on the plate was perfectly cooked. Everything was cooked exactly to a point where I love it (well, except for the potatoes, they were not exactly my thing but damn, everything else was just perfection). I love vegetable textures in many shapes lmao but very very seldomnly do I have a dish where everything is pure perfection for me haha.
Read moreThe sauce was also extremely good and the salad that comes with it was also amazing. I ordered a smoothie - a surprise smoothie, I asked her to just mix something - and it was also amazing. It was one of the best dishes I tried in CR. It's reasonably priced and the portion is big imo, I was super full. The Canadian owner is also really friendly. The place is popular with foreigners and has an amazing view on the ocean.

Seriously amazing veggie Caribbean Style Pad Thai! I could eat that every day. It came with a starter salad with sooner kind of curry flavored chickpeas and picked veggies that if I just ate that I would be happy. Beautifully presented and gorgeous beach view. The waitress and waiter were both fast, attentive, and super pleasant. It was lovely to see them both pausing to admire the sunset, like they actually like their jobs and location. Hard to really find that at any restaurant it was nice 🙂. Great vegan options and the Tamarindo Margarita was very tasty!

I don’t know where to start. From the first floor area of Stashu’s you have a magnificent view on the sunset which alone would make a visit worthwhile. But on top there is the amaaazing food. I had a Caribbean madras curry and was not disappointed. Plus although not mentioned on the menu it came with a super delicious and flavourful salad. And a massive portion. The waitress Meghan was a true gem. Not only was she looking after me and was super fast, she also was a great help recommending the dish and spicying it to my liking. The owner made a visit to the table as well and we had a lovely chat. I cannot recommend this place highly enough, if in doubt: go!

We enjoyed our meals here and thought they were good value too. I especially liked the different elements arranged on the plate -- it added colour, extra flavors, and was overall a nice touch. The cocktails were really good too. Would have been nice to have some tofu or something to replace the meat, but otherwise the meals were great!

Great food, ambience and service - what more do you need? All the curries can be made vegan so lots of options. We were made to feel so welcome and the restaurant is in a lovely building with a garden. Definitely try the frozen sangria!!

Excellent fusion of Caribbean, Asian, and Indian foods and flavors. Both specials were vegetarian, one vegan. We had the Lebanese tacos and the tandoori coconut veggie stir fry. Both were excellent and there were several more menu items we wanted to try. Friendly service, great ambience by the tropical garden, and interesting cocktails and local craft beer. Highly recommend!

Wow! The flavor in the did I had was exquisite! I had the Mexican chipotle veggie stir fry, and though that may sound simple and straightforward, it was far from! Pleasing to the pallet and settling all 6 tastes of Ayurveda. The meal left me feeling satisfied on all levels. Best vegan dish I had in Puerto Viajo!

My husband and I went to Stashus craving Thai food. Our waiter was attentive and excited to tell us that they try and make all their daily specials vegan. That night's special was a noodle dish with black bean tempeh in a sauce that I can't remember the name of unfortunately. Oh my gosh was it good! I could drown in that sauce, which is why I'm upset I can't even remember the name of it!! The special came with a salad beforehand, so even though it was pricier than our other meals, it was filling and worth the money!

Are all the curries the same? - Edit
My boyfriend and I ordered two different curries: thai peanut and madras with the veggie stir fry. I saw NO tofu or tempeh on the menu. Nothing indicated that there were vegan/vegetarian options. When we received our order, both curries tasted exactly the same and were not spiced differently at all. "Peanut" sauce didn't taste like there was any peanut in it. Neither tasted great. Best thing I can say is that the dining area is well decorated.

Ate here with my husband in October. EXCELLENT spicy plantain appetizer ( could be a dessert, too), drinks, and salad. We were disappointed with our main dishes. I had vegetables with Thai Peanut sauce, which did not taste at all like Thai Peanut Sauce. My husband ordered mussels with a red curry, which ended up being a brown sauce. SO...mixed review. Would have loved it if the sauces were correct! Great owner and wait staff!
