A solid local healthy option

Sprouts (formerly known as Sunflower) is a solid, small to medium market that carries a good range of healthy, and vegetarian, and vegan foods and goods.

The produce selection is extensive, about 1/5 of the store. It isn't always grade A, sometimes you have to pick through it a little bit, but it's spectacularly cheap: absolutely the cheapest of any standard store in town, and often as cheap or cheaper than buying mass quantities at Costco. Keep an eye on the circulars: for example, this weekend they're selling 6 ounce clamshells of fresh raspberries for $0.99. Where are you going to beat that?

The staff, from the stockers, to the produce folks, to the checkout folks, are almost all extremely friendly, and seem genuinely happy most all of the time.

A good beer selection on the side, a decent wine selection (with lots of cheap options), and a big cosmetics and toiletries section.

Owing to being a relatively small store, they don't always have some standard items, so it won't totally replace Raley's or Safeway, but they usually have 90% of what I need. e.g., they didn't have dill relish. When I asked the employee nearby, he looked, and actually said "wow, that's surprising. I'll have to see if we can stock that."

They have a great bulk foods section but it's not especially cheap, and bulk spices, and a fresh bakery.

They do have a bunch of vegan specialty items, that do occasionally go on sale, including Daiya, tofutti, several different options for tofu, etc.

The parking lot sucks (but it always has, since long before Sprouts was here. It was scarier when it was a Lucky's and Land Park pharmacy, and the cars were much larger!)

(Beware the Chinese food restaurant next door to Sprouts: I've tried it twice, and despite asking, both times my tofu dish came with shredded meat.)

I go to Sprouts at least once a week, and am very happy it's there!

Pros: fantastic, cheap produce, fun vegan items, super friendly staff

Cons: sells meat, can't stock everything due to size
