Inauthentic and Badly Seasoned - Edit
I really cannot understand the fantastic reviews surrounding this restaurant. I visited and ordered a variety of dishes off the menu and was genuinely so disappointed. My dan dan noodles were sweet and tasted nothing like they are supposed to. The mapo tofu lacked ma and the beyond meat overpowered all of its other flavors. Maybe I am just spoiled from all the Chinese restaurants in my home city of Vancouver, but this place was so overpriced, weirdly sweet and disappointing.

Really cute super busy - Edit
Definitely need a reservation to go here- even on a Tuesday night when I went. Super packed. The fried dumplings were great and other things were okay. Definitely was very hyped up and I liked all the food but wasn’t INSANE. but very good though and a fun place to go for a date :)

Everything is phenomenal - Edit
Everything we ordered (and we ordered a lot) was amazing. The pea shoots were one of the unexpected favorites. The kung pao tofu was amaaaaazing. We also had the dry pot, the sesame noodles, and the scallion pancakes, all of which I would eat over and over every day of my life if I could.
Read moreMy father has celiacs and as such can’t eat gluten. We mentioned this to the waiter and she brought over a menu showing all the gluten-free items, of which there are many! Most of the menu seemed to be indicated. The above-mentioned dry pot is one of them.
Decor, atmosphere, vibe are all great. Exactly the funky, fun, small place you would expect of the east village.
Probably the best food I’ve had all year.
Pros: Amazing Szechuan food, Atmosphere, The food again! It’s so good.

Good things come in small packages - Edit
I’ve been twice and had a great experience both times. We’ve probably worked through 50% of the menu and everything was outstanding with the exception of the sesame noodles. The ramen was good but not too exciting. We loved the wontons, mapo tofu, and veggie fried rice. The service was great too. Looking forward to my next visit.

Incredible Szechuan food - Edit
Hard to come by Szechuan style food that is also vegan. I got the Dry Pepper Style which was absolutely incredible, so many different fried veggies, my non-vegan gf got a Dan Dan Noodle bowl with Beyond beef which she was astounded how real the beef tasted, and we shared some cold cucumbers in a delicious chili oil sauce. Brown rice option and pretty fast service. If you go during dinner you'll need a reservation if you don't wanna wait. Wear something bright for the blacklights in the entrance!

Spicy moon is the go-to place for vegan/vegetarian food in New York. I highly recommend it. Please note that space is limited and you will need to reserve. Try the noodles. They’re just amazing.

Authentic Szechuan for Low Pricepoint - Edit
This place is comparable to Red Bamboo in price point and ambience, but far outperforms it in all capacities- especially flavor! You can get a lot of delicious food here for cheap by NYC standards. I came with a non veg friend who loved it! Everything was so delicious and bursting with flavor. If you get the ramen, I recommend eating it first as it has the mildest flavor and will be overpowered by anything else you eat. Truly excellent place with great service- I was never in want of anything, and my water glass was always full.

Very nice place - Edit
This is a nice Chinese vegan place. I did not find the food overwhelming, either in taste or healthiness department, but if you want Chinese food and are in the area, this place is fine; no complaints. BTW, if you don't like spicy food, they have many non-spicy options.

Delicious Chinese food - Edit
All vegan and delicious. Had the cumin fries, zha jiang noodles, aubergine salt and pepper dish. Very tasty! It's quite small (12 tables of 2) so we were lucky to snap up a table around 7.30pm on a Wednesday - then the queue started to form!

Great place - Edit
We were excited to try this place because vegetarian Szechuan food doesn't come by too often. Our dinner here turned out great and everything we got—wontons in chili oil, peppercorn brussel sprouts, scallion pancakes, zha jiang noodles, salt & pepper style veggies—was delicious. Staff was friendly and prices seemed very reasonable by NYC standards. Really nothing I could find fault with other than the use of disposable plastic water cups.

real nice - Edit
i went with a few friends on a saturday night (definitely make a reservation if you’re planning on going for a weekend dinner) and got a bunch a bunch of dishes to share. all the plates were disposable, which was odd, but the food was great. we got the spicy brussels sprouts (so much szechuan peppercorn), mapo tofu, eggplant, “honey” walnut edamame nuggets, cumin fries and cold sesame noodles. i didn’t care for the nuggets but they were a huge hit with everyone else. i’ll definitely return.

It’s been open two weeks and we’ve been here 4 times. Live in the EV and are thrilled they opened. Delicious, authentic and original dishes. Super welcoming and nice staff coupled with a cool, fun crowd. Feels like the East Village again. Favorites are 3 cup Vegetable, Vegetable Wonton to die for, peppercorn brussels sprouts rule. Vegetable fried rice with Beyond meat crumbles.

Wow!! - Edit
My husband and I are so excited to have found this gem in the East Village! There is a lack of casual, affordable vegan spots in the area and Spicy Moon really fills that void. Their food is Szechuan style, and you will see some familiar dishes on the menu, but their creative cooking makes the food anything but standard Chinese fare. We were blown away by the "Honey" Walnut Edamame Nuggets, Dan-Dan Noodles, and Wontons in Chili Oil. We decided to try the Vegetable Fried Rice with Beyond Beef, even though I had never had BB and wasn't sure I'd like it. The rice was chock full of veggies with the perfect amount of "beef" and it was incredible! A perfect introduction to it. The Cumin Tofu and Dry Pepper Style Mixed Veggies were cooked to perfection. The portions are generously sized (we came home with a lot of leftovers!) and the service was fast and friendly. We spoke with the co-owner and he is he is super nice and really customer service oriented. They will make your food to the spice level you like, and can leave out an ingredient if you're not a fan. What makes this place stand out is their lack of the usual May Wah-type mock meats and their generous use of fresh vegetables. I'm really looking forward to returning. We can't wait to try everything on the menu. We made a pretty big dent in it last night!

Delicious and friendly - Edit
There’s so little vegan Chinese food in NYC outside of Chinatown and Flushing that this is a great new spot. Apparently the co-owner was at Han Dynasty for years, but he and his wife are vegan/vegetarian and they are following their dream. The food was delicious and they were very good about helping each diner figure out what they wanted to eat (and how spicy)! Casual and comfortable space.
