Tiny place, the greatest food

We came here because of the positive reviews and oh boy they are not exaggerated! We ordered the salt & pepper tofu, the dan dan noodles, the cold sesame noodles and the Zha Jiang noodles. The portions are generous and we took home some delicious leftovers. The staff is tremendously friendly and helpful, they do a great job! We recommend making reservations to avoid wait times (although it is well worth the wait).

Pros: Friendly staff , Amazing food , Generous portions

Amazing Food in Toasty Quarters

Spicy Moon appeared on all of my top plant-based spots in New York so I knew it would be the perfect spot to catch up with a friend with spicy Szechuan cuisine.

Three things came to our bellies after ordering: the Cold Sesame Noodles, Dry Pot Vegetables, and the Cumin Tofu. The tofu is an absolute must! Fluffy, deep fried tofu in spicy peppercorn and chili... that numbing feeling was absolutely in my mouth. The cold noodles were a refreshing way to break up the spice and I enjoyed the veggies as well, although I felt they used way too much chili oil.

Rice is not included with your entrees so be sure to order some to combat some of the spice.

While we love spicy food, the AC and ice machines were broken when we went, so we were really hot inside the red-hue restaurant. Aside from that, I really enjoyed the food and would recommend it to anyone, vegan or not.

Reservations are highly recommended since the restaurant is so small. I didn't end up needing it on a weekday lunch, but it never hurts to have just in case it gets busy.

Spicy Moon delivers on Szechuan flavors

I’m a huge fan of Szechuan style and sought out Spicy Moon on a trip to NYC to search for an apartment. I’ve since moved to the city and have returned to Spicy Moon several times, and bringing friends along the way. It is the place to go to for Szechuan!

It was my first time at the smaller, cozier East Village location. But the flavors pack as loud a punch and the service and staff are just as friendly.

On this trip, got the:
- Char siu shiitake bun
- String beans
- Peppercorn Brussels sprouts
- Crispy eggplant
- Zha Jiang noodle

Loved every dish but the standouts were the crispy eggplant and the peppercorn sprouts which were both fun to eat. Whichever location you go to, Spicy Moon delivers the flavors.

so yummy

The dan dan noodles, salt and pepper tofu, and vegetable wontons in chili oil are all so delicious! The East Village location is much smaller than the West Village and Bowery locations, so seating is a lot more limited!

Best Szechuan restaurant

We went to check out this restaurant based on internet recommendations and boy it did not disappoint. 3 of us shared 3 dishes. Not sure what we ordered but everything was delicious and oh boy spicy. Out of this world. Highly recommend it. Get reservations. The place is tiny but we did get good service even though the place seemed a little hectic. We went there on a Sunday night and the place was packed. Definitely a must go if you like Szechuan cuisine

Cold leftovers were the best

Passed by this place one evening and saw a long line so we knew it must be good. My partner went bank a few days later and graciously saved me his leftovers from lunch. *insert drool face emoji here *

Exquisite dishes

This is a tiny little place, so definitely make a reservation if you want to try it. It was one of our favourite spots on our trip. Service was fast and friendly, even though they had a lot of takeaway orders to deal with.

We got the lunch menu, and all chose vegetable dumplings for our starter - they were extremely hot, and quite tasty. For our mains, we had vegetable fried rice, salt and pepper tofu, and mapo tofu. We all loved our dishes - everything was so tasty, the salt and pepper tofu was perfectly crispy, the Szechuan pepper was not too overwhelming, it was absolutely perfect.

Tiny place. Good food and service.

While we did have to wait a while even with a reservation, the service was good. The space is very small so get a reservation. I did read they were going to be opening a larger space.

Cute place

I like this location a little better than the one on 3rd but ultimately they’re doing the same thing.

So Good!

Such good food! Haven’t had crab rangoon since I went vegan (was one of my favorite foods, of course)—Spicy Moon’s version is perfection! Great food and service in a cute space!

Spicy to the moon!

Went here for my birthday lunch and enjoyed everything I ordered. The brussels sprouts were delicious and I really liked the cabbage with peppers, simple but flavorful with a little kick. The scallion pancake was great too crispy and tasty. The Kung Pao was also really good and added a crunchy texture to the meal with just enough spice for most.

Pros: Flavorful , Generous portions

Excellent!

Just visited this place for the first time, and it’s excellent! Simple, clean menu with all vegetarian and vegan. The food is great, the service is as well and the restaurant itself is cool and relaxing. Plus some good vegan desserts.

Super yummy & great lunch menu

The lunch menu is $17 for an app with a bowl or big bite. The servings are huge for a lunch portion and everything was delicious. Order the kung pao!

One of my favorite spots in NYC

I like the east village location much better than the west village location solely because they have the zha jiang mian. Plus the vibes are good. Expensive for chinese food but worth it.

Pros: All vegan

Spicy over the moon

I took the Dry Pepper Style Potatoes. It was unbelievable: tasty, spicy, crunchy. Spicy Moon is a great little gem, very busy at times which shows how much they are appreciated in the neighborhood. Their fully vegan menu is great, very diversified, and cooked on the spot with fresh ingredients.

Pros: Dry pepper style dishes, Noodles, Service

Second attempt

We should have booked as it was busy on Friday. It was also busy on Monday which is great to see, no seats so take out it was.
Mapo tofu was more Doug and was pretty spicy. The dry pot wasn’t that dry and I have to au by then end of it we had more than needed
Spring rolls and dumpling were spot on.
It may be worth booking ahead, it’s worth it.

Pros: 100%, Tasty, Busy

Cons: Busy

Great dumplings!!

The server was odd but other than that the dumplings were really good and the ramen was wow!
My boyfriend didn’t want his dish and they didn’t charge him for it.
Pretty good experience
