Indian grocery market selling a variety of foods including frozen vegetarian and vegan entrees, breads, spices and condiments. Has locally made fresh samosa, batada vada, and other snacks. Open Mon-Sat 10:00am-7:00pm, Sun 11:00am-6:00pm.
Wonderful Locally-Owned International Market - Edit
So many amazing vegan foods! The Turkish aisle has canned stuffed grape leaves, white bean stew, eggplant, and many more ready-made options marked vegan. I keep these in my pantry for quick meals. You can also buy large bags of red lentils and many other specialty supplies for making vegan meals at home. Check the frozen food section for frozen Indian samosas- most of the potato and cauliflower ones are vegan; they are delicious bake-at-home treats. The Indian food section is the most impressive part of the shop- with so many sauces and chutneys available in jars. Many of the sweets are also vegan- like the Turkish delight, halva sesame dessert, dried fruits, etc.
Being from NYC, we were really missing being able to get amazing & cheap Indian food when we moved South. While visiting Johnson City, we stopped in at Spice World & were pleased to find a great selection of frozen vegan food like we used to get in NY at Patel Brothers. Spice World even had fresh samosas, kachori & batada vada in the case. The employee pointed out that those are made without dairy. We bought some frozen meals, naan & chutney. We had the samosas today & they were great. Dare I say we liked them better than NY samosas because they were a lot less greasy! Next time I will definitely buy more!
