Sunday Afternoon Tea - Edit
I had a lovely afternoon tea at South Causey Inn yesterday. Anyone who think vegans are missing out on anything is mistaken. I had more than enough food and all very tasty. There was a dish of warm pear, rocket, red onion and cherry tomato salad, a plate of bruschetta (of sorts) with herbs, lots of sandwiches - jackfruit, cucumber, slaw, two scones, chocolate cake, sorbet ice cream, fresh fruit, macaroons, strawberries dipped in chocolate … I think that was it.

Cons: The vegan options are not apparent on the website, Vegan options in the menus are limited, No separate vegan menu

Doesn’t even deserve a star - Edit
I will not be going back here if I’m paid.
Read moreBesides the fact they’ve taken almost all of the vegan options off, there’s a curry and fajita, which isn’t really a fajita it’s a reheated sloppy wrap! I know this because when asking about allergens or if I can take stuff out I was told it was all premade.
I asked for a gluten free wrap as it was part of the option and was given a regular wrap and told about that after I had began eating it! I made my allergies very clear and the waitress tried her very best and was lovely but it seemed the kitchen staff really didn’t have a clue and something in my food set off a reaction even though I’d checked and there shouldn’t have been anything in especially since this meal was meant to be vegan (my main allergy is milk)...
On top of this, the lady who came over to assist was extremely rude and insisted if I didn’t need to go to hospital it didn’t really make any difference and it wasn’t their fault so they wouldn’t do anything! Reluctantly she refunded me and said “here you go Madame if your money will make you feel better take it we obviously don’t cater to the likes of you” utterly appalled. Due to the lack of care and their lack of options they should be taken down form here !

Vegan menu greatly reduced - Edit
This venue had a lovely varied vegan menu before lockdown but now there are only 4 things on the main normal menu 2 are salads. I have tried both the Superfood Salad which first time was delicious and a good size. The following week however it was £2 more expensive and half the size with most of the ingredients missing. I had to complain after which it was returned to me with a small amount of extra ingredients but bulked out with practically a whole red onion. Two weeks later I tried the feta cheese salad as the only vegan options other than the Superfood salad were too spicy. I was presented with a whole block of feta plonked on the plate surrounded by a few leaves a sprinkle of walnut pieces and 3 stubs of rhubarb. Most disappointing and certainly not worth 14.95. It is a shame as I used to love their food and went there often but I will not be back. It is as if the the chef or management think vegan customers aren't worth any effort but charge extra for it being vegan

Disappointing Afternoon Tea - Edit
I took my omnivore mum for afternoon tea recently at South Causey Inn. Although, it was great that there was a vegan option, the quality of it was really disappointing, especially considering it cost £20. The products included were fewer than the other options but I knew this when we booked, I appreciate that it might take a bit more effort and time to prepare vegan food. The battered mushrooms with mayo were delicious. The sandwiches (BBQ jackfruit, hummus and cucumber, savoury) were ok, the hummus wasn’t very nice. Pear and onion salad was good. The strawberries were meant to be dipped in chocolate but weren’t and the lemon cake was non existent. The baked goods (fruit scone and banana cake) were awful! They had a really dusty texture. I would like to think that if the kitchen staff had tried them, they would not have been sent out. However, it is also possible that they may have had such a low opinion of vegan food that they believed it was acceptable. Unless they improve the quality of their afternoon tea, I would recommend vegans avoid it, especially considering the price. Give your custom to somewhere that gives more time, care and interest in their vegan options/food.

A cause for celebration - Edit
I visited here at the start of the year for a wedding reception. The venue is superb with luxurious rooms and is a perfect setting for fine dining. On my visit I only had drinks including a fine cup of coffee but although there wasn't an opportunity for food, a glance at the menu revealed some excellent vegan options that I would love to try when I visit again.

Ventured a 2nd trip - Edit
First experience was really good, had a lovely meal of curried pie (really good crust, tasty curried veggies) with a side of crispy chips and steamed seasonal veggies. We got a Thursday night special menu and for three adults came to less than £40, including 2 glasses of wine. Service was very quick
Read moreSecond experience was good but a little disappointed as our first one was so good. I ordered the red pepper Baji which were crunchy but a little too much batter. Portion would have fed two people. Causey vegan salad is £12ish and was good, but expensive for what it is. Loads of asparagus on there but very little citrus segments or dressing. Otherwise very nice experience, though a bit more expensive at £55ish including gin and beer. Really had a lovely time
Pros: Variety of options (several starters, desserts), Fresh produce, Very tasty
Cons: A little pricy for some items, Portions were too big and much was wasted

Lovely country pub experience - Edit
Normally I dread going to country pubs as a vegan but this was wonderful! Several options clearly on the 'vegan menu' section and also they have a vegetarian special of the day which was vegan on my visit. The food quality is excellent and the portion sizes are huge. Staff were lovely and there's even a dog friendly area where you can eat and they provide bedding for the dogs to lie on. Also they have vegan beer on tap 😀
