Not bad, not great!

I decided to try this place place for brunch yesterday when I was in Perth, as the reviews looked pretty good. My experience was a fairly average one over all.

The menu only had a couple of vegan options, and no vegan cakes. I tried the vegan version of the smashed avocado on toast, and it was interesting, I’m not sure all the elements worked well together though. The toast was great, as was the avocado and spices, but the kimchi was a bit over powering, and probably not ideal for brunch!

The coffee was very good though. The service was ok, but the staff weren’t that friendly. No smiles, fairly robotic, which was disappointing. The space was really nice though.

Overall, it was ok, but I wouldn’t go back.

Pros: Great coffee

Cons: Not enough vegan option, Customer service

Amazing bagel

Source Foods is a cosy little cafe in Highgate with a number of vegan options available, including this epic bagel 😍
The bagel is filled with tempeh, loads of fresh pesto, onion jam, roast capsicum and vegan mayo 🤤

Other dishes include the “Vegan Feast” - a huge colourful plate with a variety of delicious components including crispy cauliflower, harissa chickpeas, zucchini and pea relish, kale, pickled cabbage, coconut flatbread, and a generous amount of lemon tahini sauce to drown it all in! The crispy cauliflower was coated in southern spices and tasted amazing, and the coconut flatbread was the best I’ve ever had!

I also tried a “coffee tonic” while I was there, this one is for lovers of strong coffee only! I was absolutely buzzing after drinking this 😂

Regular visitor

I’ve been frequenting Source for many years and have never been let down. Always at least 2 vegan options available on a rotating seasonal menu. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely worth a visit.

Great cafe

A number of vego and vegan dishes. classic & interesting Aussie cafe fare made really well - with great coffee. We eat here regularly and highly recommend it. We also take friends here (vego or not) and so far everyone has really enjoyed their food. Staff are all really nice.

Pros: Great food and coffee, Chilled place, Nice staff

Cons: Coffee takeaway can be slow if it’s busy

high hopes

Great spot in Highgate away from the hustle of the Beaufort St coffee strip and opposite a park for picnics or the Brisbane Hotel for a social drink after eating.
Came here for bfast because of the vegan and omni menu options. The vegan feast was visually lovely but the white bean pattie and guac sauce were missing flavour. My partner had the nasi which looked great but lacked flavour too unfortunately!

Pros: Vegan and omni options, Location, Clean and bright interior

Cons: Food lacking flavour but looks great

Improving their vegan options all the time!

Friendly staff and owner. In winter their soup of the day is always vegan, and you can get it with toast (specify Nuttelex but staff will often check with you) or their amazing vegan cheeze toastie.

They do an all day Vegan Feast breakfast with their delicious tempeh, mushrooms, beans, sweet potato/coconut/lupin patty, tomatoes and toast.

Other vegan options vary, but can include a vegan bagel with mushrooms and tofu 'feta', and they sometimes have vegan doughnuts.

Pros: variety of vegan options, soup of the day is always vegan, lovely staff

Nothing special...

Eating out as a vegan in Perth is quite hard, since there are not that many options, so we decided to give Source Foods a try. It is a nice little Bistro with outside seating and a welcoming atmosphere. The staff is informed about vegan standards and the menu is labeled, but there are not that many options. I tried the tempeh burger, which was ok, but not overwhelming. The portions are kinda small compared to the price and the food just lacks that certain something, which is why I would not recommand it, especially since there are better options around.

Pros: Nice atmosphere, Informed staff, Fast service

Cons: Lacks creativity, Expensive, Only a few vegan options
