Don't do it - Edit

The food was so salty I have hypertension now. It was a waste of my money.

Mmm Mmm Good - Edit

Great little gem, family owned and run. Comfort vegan victuals- collards, mac-n-chz, corn bread, curry. I practically licked my plate clean. Amazing pineapple cake in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. They’ll be celebrating their 1 yr anniversary 2/2018. I hope they are around for years to come.

DELICIOUS FOOD AND EXCELLENT SERVICE. - Edit

Let me tell you I am so thankful to have found out about this place. It is not only Vegan but Black owned as well. The food was very tasty and well-seasoned. I got the POPPIN BBQ PLATTER. And my sides were mac and cheese, smoked collard greens, potato salad, rice and sweet cornbread. The creamy mac and cheese and smoked collard greens were my absolute favorite sides. And the BBQ veg meat was very flavorful. I got the sweet potato pie for dessert and it was very nice, creamy, and delightful. I will be back again! :)

everything I want in vegan southern food - Edit

This is a cute little place off the beaten path. Their German chocolate cake and buffalo bites were excellent. Decent BBQ and fixins! Staff was friendly and fast. We will make the trip again for this place.

Delicious Comfort Food! - Edit

This is one of my favorite places in Durham! The food is delicious and the staff is very nice! I love the selections of jackfruit, plantains, greens, mac n cheese, potato salad, and more. And did you see? Mac n cheese!! It is delicious and I order it every time! They also have a delicious cornbread. The chefs really know how to cook comfort food and I always leave full!

They have a large back room, so this place is great for large parties. There is also shaded outdoor seating.

My only concern is that the staff doesn't always know what ingredients are in the food when questions are asked. I need to know ingredients because I can't consume gluten. The owner always tries to find out for me and I appreciate that. I would love them to designate on their menu what is, or can be, be gluten free because they offer options.

Pros: Delicious food, Great prices, Decent portion sized

Cons: Limited knowledge about ingredients

Vegan comfort food - Edit

One of the few places that you can get vegan comfort food (mac n cheese, collards, potato salad, bbq jackfruit, etc). They opened up earlier in 2017 and I hope they are just getting started with their offerings. There aren't many, but you can get a good combination of sides to try all the different flavors and dishes they have. They serve smoothies and sandwiches with tortilla chips. I haven't tried the desserts yet.

I have enjoyed all the food I have eaten here and will continue to visit them to try new dishes or specials they have. The staff is friendly albeit a little slow but that's just probably because it's one (maybe two) people doing it all. It's also one of the only all-vegan places in the Triangle.

I will add that it lacks decor and has plastic on the tables which makes the atmosphere and seating like an after-thought. I think that adds to the dining experience for some people (I personally don't care too much). Their prices are also reasonable. I do wish they did a "southern comfort food brunch" with pancakes, grits, etc on the weekends. :D

Pros: all vegan

Amazing vegan comfort food - Edit

Found this gem on Happycow while in the Durham area for business and was amazed at how much it tastes like the standard american dishes but without the guilt and regret. Absolutely delicious! Had many of there dishes and haven't had anything we didn't like.

A New Favorite (Vegan Soul Food with a Kick) - Edit

I have eaten lunch here at least 10 times (about once a week since discovering the place), and I have never been disappointed. I almost always get the Jerk Chikn (with white rice and corn bread), Mac n' Cheese, and Kale.

The Jerk Chikn is perfect - the sauce has just the right amount of onion, garlic, spices, and chiles, and the vegan chicken strips are tender and spiced well, too. I didn't think I would ever find a dish that could compare to Sage's Soy Chicken Cutlets or Fiction Kitchen's vegan chicken and waffles, but I prefer the Jerk Chikn to both of them.

The Kale and Mac n' Cheese are both delicious and cooked with plenty of spices and chiles. The Kale has a great kick to it - I honestly think it's the best I've had. The Mac n' Cheese is creamy and addictive. It's spice and heat level varies a bit, but it is always wonderful. (The first time I ate here, my friend and I kept double checking online to make sure the place was entirely vegan, as we'd never had vegan Mac n' Cheese that tasted just like the real thing. Same with the cornbread, which is sweet with a creamy texture. I'm not a huge fan of cornbread, but this stuff is a perfect dessert.)

I did manage to stray from my usual dish once to try the Caribbean special, which included Coconut Rice and Peas (red kidney beans), cornbread, plantains, and jerk chikn. The Coconut Rice and Peas was fabulous - just the right amount of allspice, other savory spices, and heat. I love hot, spicy foods, but I'm always frustrated when they sacrifice flavor for heat - this dish balances both really well. The heat rises as you eat it.

The owner and staff are very welcoming and take great pride in their work. It is definitely a labor of love.

Pros: Excellent food, Friendly staff, Extended lunchtime hours

100% Vegan Soul Food! - Edit

I finally tried Souly Vegan Cafe tonight and it exceeded my expectations. My favorites were the BBQ jackfruit, collard greens, and mac and cheese. The yams, rice, potato salad and cornbread were also very good. Next time I hope to try the lentil, spinach and potato leek soup! The atmosphere is very casual and friendly too.

Pros: Friendly service, 100% vegan - only non raw vegan place in Triangle, Collards, mac and cheese

Cons: No alcoholic beverages

Delicious, flavorful and filling -- even for a non-vegan! - Edit

Absolutely delicious. I am not a vegan (or even a vegetarian), but I took my vegan daughter here for a girls' night out. We both absolutely loved the food! We had the Jerk Chikn, Curried Chickpeas and Potatoes, and Lentil and Kale Soup, with Kale, Mac n' Cheese and Plantains as our sides. YUM! We both left full, and with leftovers to spare.

Pros: Excellent food, Friendly staff, Good variety of options

Cons: Service could be improved

soooooooooooo good!!! - Edit

Stopped here for lunch today. It's is a little placed tucked away in the corner off of the road. Sat outside on the covered patio, which is enclosed 3 sides and far enough from the noise of the road. It was so peaceful and I could hear birds and enjoy my food.
All the entrees come with this delicious fluffy rice and the best cornbread I've ever had!
I don't always like the vegan meats and often go either beans; today I decided to try the jerk "chicken" and I have to say that it is wonderful, the taste is fresh and spicy! :) perfect! I was given a sample of the BBQ and not only the taste but also the texture were phenomenal!! If you miss dishes like these, come here!
They even have vegan mac&cheese!!!!!! I had some excellent collards as well. Basically, they gave me a huge dinner plate for a couple of bucks at lunch! I could only eat half.
The hostess is super nice, the atmosphere is very relaxed and laid back. There was nothing fancy or uptight. It felt like having a cookout with friends :)
Can't wait to come back and try some soups and the plantains!

Pros: vegan, tasty

Cons: wish I lived closer!
