655 Ellis St, San Francisco, California, USA, 94109

Serves meat, vegan options available. A chicken and waffle place but also offers a vegan version of chicken and waffles along with a few other vegan items. Vegan food is reportedly prepared in a separate fryer from meatstuff. Casual atmosphere. Previously at Larkin St, new address reported March 2017. Open Mon-Wed 8:00am-3:00pm, Thu-Fri 8:00am-10:00pm, Sat 11:00am-10:00pm, Sun 11:00am-5:00pm.

Sweet and Savory - Edit

Exactly how you want chicken and waffles to taste.

The menu isn’t super clear what’s vegan, and the area the restaurant is in is a detractor.

But, the garden chicken was seasoned very well and the vegan waffle was delicious!
It was yummy, but not a must have.

Pros: great flavor

Cons: location, confusing menu, hours were wrong online

Good for Vegans not GF vegans - Edit

They can make vegan chicken and waffles. Not much is gluten free except the hash browns. Service was terrible, music was loud. However the vegan food was good.

5 stars! 🌟 - Edit

Delicious vegan chicken and waffles, tofu scramble and sides. The service is really great and I wish I could give the food 5 stars as it is super tasty, but Happy Cow doesn't allow 5 star reviews on non vegetarian restaurants.
They have been running low on the vegan chicken recently as they have been getting more vegans visiting, but give them a chance, their sourdough waffles alone are worth the visit. If you really want to get the chicken, maybe call ahead.

Pros: delicious food, good price, good service

An absolute must for SF - Edit

This place is incredible!
1. The staff are so lovely. We went three times on our visit to SF, and each time the staff working were charming, kind, and personable. Felt immediately at home.

2. The food will knock your socks off. The vegan options they have are so good, I'm not sure I can describe it well enough. The vegan "chicken" and waffles (breakfast or sandwich style) are AMAZING. Never tasted anything like it, and it perfectly captures my conception of Southern Comfort food. The rice and beans, slaw, and homemade hot sauce get a shout out too.

3. The atmosphere. Live DJs perform on the weekends, and it tops off the cool vibes that ooze off this place.

Come and try it, then come back for more.

Pros: Amazing vegan options, Wonderful staff, Great prices

Great place for vegans/vegetarians - Edit

The vegan chicken and waffles has been available every time I've been to Soul Groove and it is absofreakin' delicious! Sure I'd love it if that's all they sold, but I'm really grateful that the do offer this vegan option and truly provide a great vegan meal.

Pros: Really delicious vegan comfort food. Friendly serv

Cons: A bit pricey. Also serves meat.

Not a Great Place for Vegetarians/Vegans - Edit

I went to this restaurant several times after it first opened, but each time they didn't have the vegan "chicken" available. Maybe it's gotten better, but my advice is to call first if that's what you want.

I went a couple of more times after that (calling first) and the food was okay. But the final time that I went, I had an uneasy feeling that the vegan "butter" wasn't vegan. It was crowded and I had to get back to work so I didn't go up to the counter to check. But I haven't been back since.

I guess if you really want vegan "chicken" and waffles, check them out, but I would recommended going to Golden Era instead (it's only a block away) if you want delicious food - and food you can be sure is 100% vegan.

amazing vegan chicken and waffles! - Edit

The waffles are so amazing and the vegan chicken is house breaded gardein. The chicken and waffle sandwich with a side is amazing, as is the stand alone chicken and waffle.

Chik'n and Waffles! - Edit

Vegan chik'n and waffles certainly hit the spot after traveling all day. Covered in vegan butter, maple syrup, and hot sauce. They have two portion sizes that seem to be available all day. I got the lunch portion late in the day and it was the perfect size. Cool place in Chinatown area.

Pros: Tasty, Friendly Staff

Cons: Limited Vegan Options
