Best meal in Ireland! - Edit
If you’re near Cork and want an amazing meal definitely make the time to stop at Sonflour. It was by far the best meal we had while traveling through Ireland. Everything is made from scratch right when you order it and you can tell in the quality of food/ingredients. Most of the menu can be made vegan and it’s definitely not an afterthought. The sweet garlic bread was out of this world and really everything else was amazing too.
Read moreDefinitely make a reservation though, we stopped by on a weekday and luckily got a spot on the sofa but they turned so many other people away because they are normally booked up completely with reservations so I would recommend planning ahead and reserving your table beforehand.

Sehr gut - Edit
Ein schöner Ort mit sehr gutem Essen. Die hausgemachten Ravioli und die Schokomousse waren sehr lecker. Das Ambiente ist eine Mischung aus hip und gemütlich. Man sollte auf jeden Fall vorher reservieren.

I would visit this place every week if I lived nearby. This is one of my 2 favorite meals during a 2 week trip to Ireland! I had the Normal(l) People pasta dish. Loved it!!

The pizzas are actually more like massive sandwiches but lovely fillings. Sweet garlic bread was lovelyyy and we had the nicest olives. Pesto ravioli was good, huge portion!

Amazing on all fronts, only thing that could make it better is if they ditch the cheese and go fully vegan!

Vegetarian / mostly vegan Italian cuisine in vibrant County Cork, Ireland - Edit
On our second full day in Ireland, we ventured to the town of Cork, the 2nd largest city in the Republic of Ireland. We had a lot of options to choose from in deciding where to eat as Cork has an absolute wealth of amazing vegan friendly places. While it was difficult to choose, we opted for Sonflour, a completely vegetarian and mostly vegan Italian restaurant in the main shopping area about halfway between the North Channel and the South Channel of the River Lee.
Read moreWe were blown away with our whole experience there. The ambiance is just so far removed from that which we've encountered locally in the states, it was quaint, charming, rustic and all things in-between. Italian food is one of those cuisines that can be challenging to find vegan options so we were intrigued with the idea of a whole restaurant dedicated to vegetarian/vegan food Italian fare.
For starters, we ordered what I believe to be Focaccia Bread but I forget the ,specific menu name. Being a big fan of seaweed, I had to order their "Better Call Saul..ad" (get it? saul..ad .. salad ... lol😄) "A small fresh salad, made with local Seaweed, Rocket, Carrots, Cherry Tomatoes, Balsamic Vinegar, Seeds, Truffle oil and Vegan Mayonnaise. Both were absolutely a divine treat on the palate, bursting with flavor, true story!
For our main dish, we both ordered Ravioli, Sandi having ordered the "Vintage sauce - Our Slow Cooked Tomato Sauce made with Fresh Vegetables and Mediterranean, Herbs, Basil Leaves and Evoo" and for me, the "Sunflower’s soul sauce - Homemade Fresh Vegan Pesto, Baked Roasted Potatoes, Cherry Tomatoes and Evoo, Pine Nuts and Edible Flowers". Words cannot hope to do these dishes justice so I'll simply say, the dish melted in our mouths!
For dessert, we chose "Affogato Italian coffee-based dessert. 2 scoops of Vegan Local Vanilla Ice Cream drowned with a shot of our hot Organic Espresso Giuliano". You need simply look at the attached picture to know everything you need to know about how good this was.
We simply could not be happier with our choice of cuisine while in Cork. While we would have loved if we had more time to try other options, Sonflour left an in
Pros: Italian cuisine, Completely vegetarian and mostly vegan, Friendly service / amazing food

Too salty - Edit
I’ve been here before in 2022 and had great memories of the vegan pizza and the George Constanza salad. Was really looking forward to coming back for another enjoyable meal. Unfortunately we found almost every dish to be extremely over-salted!! Especially the truffle focaccia. Also, the salad had way too much salt on it.
Read moreMost enjoyable dish was the BBQ tempeh, it has more balanced flavor and was not excessively salty. The desserts are also 10/10
Pros: Homemade things like sweet potato ravioli , Great smell and atmosphere , Really good Vegan Italian options
Cons: Way too much salt added on top of everything , Could easily be 100% vegan

Best chocolate mousse ever - Edit
Had the best chocolate mousse I’ve ever had. Incredible.
Read moreAlso got the potato pizza which was good. Only thing was the pepper flakes weren’t actually spicy and I had to add the vegan cheese myself. Still giving it 5 stars as the mousse is next level.
Delicious kombucha!
Nice staff too.
Was a walk in (solo) and was able to get a table within 15m.

Unmissable - Edit
We almost didn’t book here because the only table we could get was at 5pm and the booking was limited to 1.5hrs - but I’m so glad we did. We came as a group of 4, two vegans and two non-veggie. The menu is pretty extensive so it was difficult to choose. We shared some of the Roman style pizza and the sweet garlic bread to start; I followed with ravioli in a spicy tomato sauce. The pizza was the standout for me but I genuinely enjoyed every bite. We shared the coffee style crème brûlée, which was tasty but I think I’d try the chocolate mousse next time. Cost was reasonable in my opinion - just bear in mind the time limit which meant we felt a bit rushed and couldn’t fully relax and enjoy the time with our friends.

Delicious Italian food - Edit
Most dishes are vegan. We shared a delicious focaccia to start and then had two different kinds of pasta for the main course. The best vegan food we have had in Cork. We will be back, and next time we're going to try some of the 4 vegan desserts!

Italian Irish place - Edit
I accidently misbooked the hour. I booked for 8.30pm but meant 18:30 (6.30pm). Luckily they could change our reservation to 7pm without us having to pay the no-show fee of €15/pp. We really appreciate that. Staff was friendly in helping us.
Read moreThe food came quickly and looked amazing. I had the pratai pratai pratai and enjoyed it. Quite unhandy to eat though. I spilled my pizza everywhere and so did my hushand who ate a 'normal' pizza.
Dessert was amazing. The chocolat mousse and Coffee and Tv were delicious. We only missed some ice cream or fresh fruits.
I came with my parents-in-law and noticed there were only high chairs and tables. The table was bit small for us. There was also a couch to sit and eat, but for us, that was a bit unhandy.
The reservations only last 1 hour and 30 min. We like to sit back and relax a bit while we eat so this felt a bit rushed.
Overall we had a good experience and I would recommend it.
Pros: Waiting time , Food looked amazing, Small place
Cons: Only high tables, Only 1u30min

Amazing wine & food - Edit
Love the atmosphere in sonflour, it is really cosy, the staff is friendly and you can see the chefs - or even talk to them. The food is high quality and fresh. There are different options and you can choose your own sauce for the pasta. It is super busy so if you are planning to go for dinner make sure to book in advance.

Quality ingredients and meal - Edit
We ordered the pistachio pesto with linguine and the potato pizza for lunch. The linguine was perfectly al dente. The sauce was a little underwhelming as it appeared to be only made of pistachios. Some herbs would have given it some flavor which it lacked. The potato pizza was a little on the small side but super tasty on a perfect dough that wasn't too heavy. It was beautifully topped with a variety of Irish potatoes prepared 3 ways: pureed, chips, and cubed. The coffee creme brulee was painfully small but flavorful enough. A nice overall meal. Reservations recommended!

Fun, Filling, and you might forget you' re at a vegetarian restaurant - Edit
lovely place, good vibes and wonderful food . Went for a date night with my partner and he thought he was eating a pork spaghetti bolognese at one point. He was'nt. Really wholesome food and surroundings. You feel like you could be anywhere in Europe which I appreicated and the location is super convenient. Personally it was my second time going there , once for a group event for a birthday and this time I thought the couch was perfect for relaxing . Date night or birthday perfection. Go!

Good Food, Even Better Dessert - Edit
I was thankful we were able to eat here as we came in an hour before they were going to be closed early for a big party. I will say it was a bit difficult to sit at the couch and eat, but it worked.

Disappointment - Edit
Since we were 12 people we decided to get a take-out and there's the problem. They got our order and obviously prepared it waaay before we arranged to pick it up. I ordered a soup and was a bit shocked to find so little soup in the container that it hardly covered the base. And (of course) it was cold.... cold pumpkin soup is not very nice!

Excellent food - Edit
I would advise you book. I booked for lunch and it was booked out and I noticed dinner was booked out too. They did have tables there when I left though. The staff explained I needed to scan the menu qr code then they take the order. I decided on the “I lost my mind on shakey bridge” focaccia to start. The bread was very nice and I enjoyed the toppings. Next I ordered the ravioli stuffed with sweet potatoes and herbs. I asked the staff what sauce was suggested and they suggested hot summer dream. It was nice, probably not as spicy as I thought it would be though. For dessert I ordered the vegan mousse. This was incredible. Such a lovely flavour and served on a biscuit. Texture was incredible. This was my favourite part of the meal but it was all nice. Reasonably priced and lovely helpful staff.

This place is popular, so reservations are recommended. The flatbread I had as a starter was the most delicous part of the meal (5/5). The Pasta were good as well, but nothing exceptional. Vegan options are clearly marked and staff are very friendly and helpful.

Fresh Italian food - Edit
Normally if the restaurant is not vegan, I would rate out of four stars (even for vegetarian restaurants, as no cow is happy who is separated from their babies!) However, because of the fresh, organic ingredients, I will rate this nice little restaurant out of 5. So it gets a 4 instead of a 3.
Read moreNice interior decoration. The menu is surprisingly affordable, considering they were not accepting walk-ins. Maybe 40% or 50% of all options were vegan (as well as all the wine I think. They don't serve beer)
Portions are not huge but not small, so if you're hungry get a starter, if not a mains is fine. Interesting pizza. The proprietor will tell you all about it! Quite tasty. I enjoyed my stuffed pizza very much.
To the owners, I would advise to try to get vegan cheese for your pizzas! As vegans, we know it's not going to be exactly the same as Italian parmesan or mozzarella, but we don't care. Try homemade cashew cheese, or buy some. Lots of independent producers in Cork and West Cork. Or even VioLife melts well. It's just vegans won't be tempted to come back for pizza without cheese, if they're not in the mood for your delicious pasta. Maybe for lunchtime foccaia, if it's takeaway! But pizza without cheese doesn't have the same kick.

Much better vegan to be had in Cork - Edit
Slightly pretentious cafe, seemed they couldn't be bothered to try too hard in the customer service department. Surprised with the lack of complex flavours - the two exceptions being vegan truffle linguini and the stuffed vegan pizza. The chips they served were undercooked and not at all as described in the menu. The seating was soooo uncomfortable.

Inviting and friendly from the first moment you enter the place. Food is to die for - menu is mostly vegan (you can choose to add local cheese, if you're prefer vegetarian). Portions may seem small at the first glance, but don't let this fool you - you'll be absolutely stuffed when you've finished! A-must-go-to when you're in Cork
