Poor service - Edit
The food here is just as good as at the other Soil location (definitely recommend the Ben Ben Noodles, they are so good), and the place is really cozy and located in an interesting part of the city.
Read moreUnfortunately, when my friend and I went here they opened late despite the fact that we had a reservation so we had to walk around for 20 minutes. The waiter then rudely asked us if we had a reservation although nobody else was even there so we wouldn't really have been taking anyone's spot. When we confirmed that we indeed had a reservation (earlier, mind you) he let us order. The whole time he was very arrogant and unfriendly. He might have just had a very bad day, but I'd recommend the other location over this one.
But again, the food is just as good at this location. It's a nice change from all the places that only do burgers (they also make burgers here, but there are additional options as well).
The cod fish croquettes were incredibly tasty and had my non-vegan friend question whether we were really at a vegan place. The Ben Ben Noodles were as excellent as always. They are so flavorful and creamy. Probably the best item on the menu.
Pros: Very good food, Cozy interior, Clean bathroom
Cons: Poor service

Hey Lemons and Luggage, Grea to hear you found us in EAST and that you loved the food. Sucks that you caught our server on a bad day. That's really unacceptable and not the service standard we like to deliver.

Great if you enjoy spicy food - Edit
We grabbed a quick lunch there before catching a train. The place was pretty deserted for a Sunday at lunchtime, we got there at around 1pm and it seemed like we were the first patrons of the day. So we were a bit surprised that we had to wait for a good while before being served. Nothing too extreme though, and at least it's proof that they prepare the dishes on the spot and with what clearly are fresh ingredients.
Read moreMy husband had the Ben ben noodles and I had the Kimchi fried rice. Both dishes were very tasty, but be warned, they were pretty spicy, so you might want to order something else if you're not into spicy food.
I wish we could have tried the desserts but unfortunately time was already up :(.
The place is pretty nice with a patio so you can eat outside, and gender-neutral toilets (thumbs up!). The staff was friendly and helpful. A good experience overall.
Pros: All vegan, Tasty dishes, Fresh ingredients
Cons: The wait was a bit much

Hi Tessalita, Yeah you are right, Lunchtime in tends to start a bit later. Great that you arrived before the crowd. And yeah you got it totally right. We make everything to order, on the spot. We now added spice level notes on our menu :-)

Nice ambience, fantastic starters! - Edit
Lovely restaurant with very good music :).
Read moreAs starters we had the ribs and chorizo. Both very delicious (wouldn't call it chorizo though). Especially the ribs are so flavorful, would definitely order that again.
The tempe on the tempe burger didn't really have a strong flavour and the burger lacked a good sauce.
The miso salad was a bit too sour and spicy due to pickled vegetables (I guess). There was a lot of smoked tofu in it, which was great!
The cheese cake was very good!!

Nice! - Edit
Lovely atmosphere, even lovelier staff. The food was very good but I think 21€ for a curry and tap water was a bit much, hence 4*.

Disappointed (but I’m very selective) - Edit
Thought I’d try a new vegan place and give them my business. Ordered the yucca fries and the Ben Ben noodles. Fries had no flavor, even with the seasoning on top, Ben Ben noodles were customized based on my soy allergy and the sauce was confusing and not tasty. Maybe the flavor came from the soy protein alone: The menu wasn’t made clear regarding allergies so I thought I would have had more options but realized most gluten options were mixed with soy so I could barely order anything. My water was good.

Cons: Waste of money and time

Dear DenoshBennett thank you for the review. But in the interest of providing information for other readers, we do have a full allergen list in our menus as well as online. https://www.soilvegancafe.com/soilvegancafe-menu
Read moreA big part of the ben ben noodles is soy sauce, thus adapting this dish was probably something we won't be able to do anymore to avoid disappointing people. We are sorry to hear you have soy allergy and with other allergens we do our best to accommodate everyone's needs. However, we are strong on Asian-inspired flavours what makes soy sauce an ingredient that's present in most of our dishes. Glad you liked the water.

Warm & cozy food & ambience - Edit
After a vacation of lots of vegan junk food, SOIL East offered dishes that tasted homemade with love. It was fresh and gave us a boost of energy. Staff were also very friendly. Atmosphere was cozy, warm and relaxed on a rainy evening.

Loved it - Edit
Nice tasty vegan food. Loved the Kimchi. We shared two starters the mushroom bitterballen and pulled taco's. After that we both had a burger with fries and could not order a dessert because it was already enough.

Good stuff - Edit
Had the peanut butter pumpkin curry and a "vegan snickers", basically a long fudge bar with nuts, and it was all spot on. The light wasn't working in the toilet when I went in so they had a candle to light the room, which frankly I found charming. I'd go again.

Must see in East Amsterdam - Edit
Really tasteful food and not too expensive too. My so had The cheezy burger, which was a perfect size with good melted cheez, a good patty too (no bean burger, but something like the beyond). Ben ben noodles were itsi bitsi overcooked but still very good. Bitterballen & ribs as a starter were amazing too. Highly recommend!

It's so hard to find a good vegan baked cheesecake and Soil has a great one! That was definitely the highlight. The kimchi fried rice I had was just okay, but it's a nice little place and the server was good.
