Incredible. Must try. - Edit
This is the best vegan meal I’ve had in years and with 2 kids meals, and 2 adult sets, all with drinks and cake, it only came to about $14 per person. Wild.

Best vegan restaurant in Tōhoku I've visited so far - Edit
The food was amazing! The wait wasn't that long either, and the service was good.
Read moreI went with two omnivore friends who both loved it. They got the cheese hamburg set, and one said that he couldn't tell it wasn't real meat and that the vegan cheese was better than dairy cheese. He also said that it was the best vegan food he had ever had. The soy ice cream he got was also reportedly really good.
I got the unajuu set, which came with a soup, brown rice with soy-based imitation eel, a salad, and a few Japanese-style sides. I also got the blueberry smoothie which was delicious.
They also have a sort of store for vegan ingredients and goods.
I highly recommend it to anyone in the area!
Pros: Brown rice!, Amazing food, Quaint atmosphere

Carrying on the spirit of Miyazawa Kenji - Edit
Miyazawa Kenji who lived in the early 20th century was a native of Hanamaki in rural north-eastern Japan. His contribution to Japanese poetry and children’s literature was enormous but sadly recognized only after his brief 37 years of life. He was a humanitarian and naturalist. And, most unexpected of all in Japan - a vegetarian.
Read moreIt is the spirit of this great human being that has manifested in Sayuri Sobe Takahashi, a present-day native of Miyazawa Kenji’s Hanamaki through her vegan restaurant, Sobe’s Cafe. What she has created is a tribute to the human spirit, peace, health, happiness and good vegan food. A must visit.

Original Review - April 11, 2022:
Read moreThis restaurant serves only vegan food, making it easy to order! I got the vegan burger and my husband got the brown rice noodle pho and a side of karaage (fried soy meat). The desserts looked delicious too, but we were quite full from the meal. We also got some non-alcoholic beverages. My husband got the "beer" and I got a ginger soda. The owner was very kind and the shop atmosphere was nice. We got there just before 4:30, so barely in time for the last order. We had the place all to ourselves!
Updated Review - December 13, 2023:
We finally got the chance to go back to Sobe's Cafe! This time, we went as a group so I was able to take photos of lots of different menu items. The menu has changed since the last time I went (1.5 years ago) and everything looked delicious! Of course, everything is still vegan, and in fact they also made changes to accommodate oriental vegans by eliminating onions, etc. from their recipes!
This time, I ordered the apple cheese hamburg steak. The texture and taste were amazing and it was the perfect amount of food for me! My husband got the "unagi" set (tofu kabayaki) and I tried some of his - it was soooo good! The set also came with a drink and dessert - he chose the caramel macchiato and strawberry tart. They were wonderful!
Next time, I want to try their parfait! It looks heavenly! The chefs at this restaurant are highly skilled and all the staff are very friendly. I definitely recommend going here if you are in the area!
