Cute Place

Very authentic little restaurant with a special flair. Friendly service and handwritten menu. I had the oyaki with vegetable filling and they were delicious!

Nice people!

Cute little place with a couple vegan options. Very nice soba. Fun interior and very nice owners. We also got to try their soba tea for free!

Very good and very friendly

The atmosphere is amazing, traditional and yet light.
We ordered soba, french fries(really good), edamame and nozawana (local vegetable). The owner was so kind that offered us a typical apple of the region.
Loved it.

Tasty filling food, fabulous decor

The owner didn’t speak much English but was able to point me to a vegetarian soba and veggie filled steamed bun. We were also given complementary rice and pickled veggies. Meal for 2 came to just 2300 yen.

It took a few passes to find the place as it’s not obviously a restaurant if you can’t read Japanese. It is in exactly the expected location - look for trinkets and open the sliding door.

After leaving the restaurant we heard the owner running up the street after us. Had we underpaid? No! She happily presented my husband with a fabulous Japanese shirt with a print that could be described as “angry men”. My American husband is much bigger than the average Japanese person - it seemed like she had been waiting a long time to find someone of the right size for this shirt. Lamentably none in my size.

Tasty soba and amazing interior!

The owners of this place know what vegan means, and there are a couple of dishes available - sansai soba and sansai udon. It’s a warm and refreshing broth with mountain vegetables like mushroom and garlic, really tasty! You can also get edamame and nozawana (kind of like pickled mustard leaves).

I didn’t see the salad mentioned in previous reviews, but I visited in the middle of winter so maybe they weren’t making it!

If you’re on the fence, this place is worth visiting for the interior alone... so much STUFF!

Authentic Japanese Vegan meal

Hand written Vegan/Vegetarian menu available (only 1 vegan option but its so delicious)

Fantastic vegan meal of homemade soba noodles and salad served in a traditional environment with some interesting trinkets filling the walls.

She brought out a plate of freshly cut fruit at the end. So yummy and fresh.

Cant recommend this place enough!!

Pros: Amazing meal!

Cons: None!

amazing find in shibu onsen

On the Main Street of shibu onsen, this restaurant doesn’t really have a sign, it’s just up from Koishiya Ryokan and the public onsen. The place is full of little trinkets, and the little Old couple that run the place didn’t speak much English but were very lovely! They have a tiny menu labeled vegetarian/vegan with udon or soba salad. Also offer edamame as a starter. She asked if I wanted soup, I pointed at ‘vegan’ and she brought me out the salad so I can only assume the soup is animal based. Very affordable, and they bring you chopped up apple at the end (which was so delicious).

Pros: one of few vegan options in area

Cons: small menu

Best homemade soba!

Stranded in yudanaka we found it quite hard to get anything really vegetarian/vegan. The owner of a Pizza-Place then recomnended Yariya a bit further up the Street in Shibu onsen. It was a small place, crammed with colorful figurines. They even had a handwritten english translation of the menu with 2 vegan and 1 vegetarian dishes on it. We had vegan handmade soba with regional wild vegetables and enoki mushrooms and a vegetable bun. Both were delicious and inexpensive. We were blown away by the friendly service, the good quality of the food and that it was a non-smoking place as well. If you are in the area, you should definitely try it out!

Pros: Friendly & cosy, Fresh & homemade, Good value for money
