Vegan Pad Thai - Edit
A place with vegan options in Franz Josef! I opted for the Pad Thai, which can be made vegan. It was good and filling, but not really authentic. According to my friend the vegan burger is great. The coffee was the worst I had in New Zealand.

Was really surprised to see something vegan on the menu. And it didn't disappoint. Great pattie and sweet cashew sauce. Chips are awesome too. Worth eating out for.

Superb vegan burger - Edit
The burgers in this place are massive! Vegan burger is very tasty and fills you up nicely and the chips are yummy too. A few good tap beers also and nice atmosphere. Located right in the centre of town.

A gem in Franz Josef - Edit
We visited this place after seeing the nearby glacier. It was very cold and rainy so this place was such a cosy spot to sit.
Read moreWe ordered the vegan burger and a tofu pad Thai. Once we specified that we were vegan the staff offered extra vegetables on the pad Thai!
The kitchen staff really know what they're doing! The burger had a peanut / satay sauce inside, and the pad Thai came with little piles of sugar, chilli, and crushed peanut to garnish. Both were very delicious and filling.

A nice vegan dessert for a late supper.... - Edit
We stopped here for a late night dessert on the way back to our motel and the coconut chia berry pudding was large and tasty. Both their breakfast and lunch/dinner menus here have vegetarian and vegan options and all of their smoothies are dairy free. They do curries, salads, burgers, noodles, stir-frys and the prices are moderate at around $20 for a main. The portion sizes I observed coming out of the kitchen looked good (and tasty). We checked out most of the menus for eating places in this small town and Snakebite had the largest vege choices by far.

SnakeBite has a vegan asian style burgen in their menu, but they also make delicious vegan green curry. Just ask for vegan options, waiters are nice and friendly!
