Excellent lunch

This place was recommended on the Nottingham Vegans Facebook page as a place to go for a treat lunch.

We booked around a month ahead and informed them that this was an anniversary lunch, and that we are both vegan. I had hoped there would be specials on as the menu is very small and changes often.

We arrived slightly early and were shown to our table. The decor is natural and quite muted, but the seats are very comfortable, encouraging a long lunch feel.

Although there was a vegan option for starter main and sweet, we were disappointed there was only one thing available, so we'd be ordering the same dish. I expressed this to the owner when we came to order, which turned out to be the right thing to do! He spoke to the kitchen and they created an alternative main course, so we shared delicious pickles and (enormous) olive snacks and the soup starter, then had our own mains. For dessert, they offered to plate up sorbets with a raspberry compote, and as it was a warm day, despite the fact I wouldn't usually order sorbet, we decided to have it alongside the chocolate dessert.

All of the food is well prepared and presented attractively. There was no over saturation of any particular flavour or over seasoning, something I find carnist establishments often do.

As it was a warm day, we opted for a rose wine and were not disappointed - more rose would be sold if it was a good as the one we had with lunch!

Definitely worth a look, particularly if you are having dinner with non vegan friends. I suspect the accomodation of providing extra vegan options came about as a result of the fact that we were there for an early lunch in the middle of the summer holidays in the UK, meaning it was quiter than usual, but that doesn't put me off going back. I'd recommend giving it a try.

Pros: Clearly labelled menu, Lovely wine and food, Helpful staff
