Excellent shop for food and household goods. Best option in Lancaster for loose and plastic free shopping and they have an excellent delivery service. A man on an eco-bike delivers veg boxes twice a week between 3 and 5pm ! Had to make an emergency order in the morning and it came just after 3!

Always make a trip here after eating at the whale tail up stairs. Has fresh vegetables and can refill jars with pulses and grains, etc. Has toiletries, chocolates, a couple of gift ideas and alcohol.

They have some fresh fruit and veg, and a wide range of other whole foods. There are lots of vegan products available here, and is right next to a cafe which sells lots of vegan and vegetarian options. Love it here :)

The Single Step is without a doubt the most genuine and ethical business I have ever had the pleasure to patronise. The shop itself is a veritable wonderland of goods, providing everything from vegan chocolate and cheese to toiletries, beer and gifts. They have an original ecofriendly self-serve section for grains, lentils and herbs - long before the advent of hipster plastic free shops.

We only popped in to have a quick nosey after dinner (lunch) at The Whale Tail, ended up with two big bags of items! Fantastic array of fresh, local, organic produce which was very reasonably priced and a great variety of other items in the store, including a fair fridge selection. I’ll definitely be ‘popping in’ again next time I’m in Lancaster.

The fresh organic fruit and veg is great here, chokka full most days, super local generally, much of which is grown vegan-organic and good value; plenty of fridge items; all the pulses, herbs n grains you can imagine; and plenty of naughty treats. Why would you go anywhere else?

The best wholefood shop in Lancashire! - Edit
Single Step is currently the best wholefood shop I have discovered in Lancashire. The produce they have on offer is sourced ethically - no tax dodging companies or air-flown produce here! Herbs and spices all packaged (self-service) and sold by weight. Big range of magazines on all sort of ethical issues, from veganism to permaculture to Amnesty International to anti-capitalism.
