Just ok. - Edit
Ordered a salad, which was not very fresh (wilted lettuce and old carrot), and my order instructions were ignored. Asked for no jalapeño or onion, but got them regardless. Salad was supposed to have kale, but there wasn't any. And it was GREASY. So basically it was lettuce with 5 bits of fake chicken on top. Will probably try again in store to see if it's any better, but in this instance it was extremely average. Kinda sad because every other vegan place in San Antonio has been amazing.

No longer vegan - Edit
Had to update my review since this location has been shut down. It's no longer a Project Pollo but called "Side Chicks" now? Apparently it is no longer a vegan restaurant. So sad because I dragged my nonvegan husband with me here at least 50 times over the past year. Not an exaggeration! I loved the food, loved that the location was super close to my house, loved that it was a vegan drive thru I could quickly get food from that was once again VEGAN! We even came up here nearly every Sunday for their vegan chicken and waffles. I guess times change. Have to find a new vegan place to visit weekly now. Apparently I cannot mark this as 1 star due to HappyCow.

Pros: They still have some vegan options?
Cons: They chose to begin selling meat moving backwards

This company does a disservice to vegans - Edit
I drove to TWO “project pollo locations” tonight to discover that 1) the food truck behind the Roadmap Brewery on Alamo St is in fact a burger truck that serves meat (no project pollo to speak of and 2) the project pollo restaurant on 303 San Pedro is actually a “side chicks” under construction that serves you guessed it ONLY MEAT.
Read moreThere is no information on the project pollo website available for customers letting them know these locations are no longer in service. The maintenance man, Jorge outside of the side chicks told me he’d call the 1959 San Pedro location to tell them to give me free dinner since I wasted my gas and time driving to their restaurant and coming up empty handed. Well that location is another 10 miles away. So I have to drive around in circles for an hour and for like 25 miles to get dinner?!? What kind of business model is that?? It’s hard enough being vegan in Texas with all this meat everywhere. Come on!!!
Cons: The locations don’t even exist!

Sell out - Edit
After all of the hemming and hawing about shark tank (and being the little guy) the owner sold out. This is the “formerly project pollo”. For me, veganism is about about ethics. Kindness.

The owner just sold the whole company and they’re closing every single store except one. Complete sell out imo.

Fast Food Option - Edit
Went here reluctantly due to other reviews… BUT, the man who was working had great customer service, answered all my questions politely, and assured me what I was ordering was fully vegan and cooked vegan too. I even watched them and there wasn’t any cross contamination I saw and everything was made with care. I was pleased to see they used coconut ice cream with oat milk for milkshake! It’s about 20min easy walk from Riverwalk. Could have more flavor on sandwich but over all it’s fine vegan fast food.

Oof - Edit
Was reading the google reviews about someone getting the wrong sandwich and it kind of turned me off to this spot in particular, it just seems confusing. Also not gunna lie it does kind of seem sell-out-ish.

Project Pollo - Edit
My typical go to fast food restaurant. If I purchase a chikn sandwich, I have to get the gluten free option due to Tindle tasting too much like real chicken, I can not take the smell. The burgers are a plus!!

Doesn’t get much better - Edit
Project Pollo is one of my top two all vegan places, another close to my heart being native to San Antonio. The Nashville Hot is a god send. Employees are always super nice. I can’t wait to see the rapid success for this chain continue.

Chicken is from China - Edit
Really sad to find out that their chicken is imported from China. The food was dripping with grease. Even the cheese sauce had oil bubbling to the surface. Being vegan doesn’t necessarily mean healthy. Depending on your goals for being vegan choose wisely if you eat at this place.
Read morePros: Vegan but not healthy.
Cons: Food was significantly oily and greasy, The chicken is imported from China (Taiwan), Buns were white with no healthy options.
BaileySchneider
I agree with the oil issue but I just saw from their Facebook that they are changing their chicken to tindl chicken brand. Not sure where it’s from but hopefully a local US brand!

Tindle (the chicken they use) is actually from Singapore not China. But idk why that even matters.

Decent wrap but I’d go back - Edit
This is a fantastic place to come get a bite to eat, I love visiting the one in Austin and decided to try out this location in San Antonio again because last time it wasn’t too bad when I got the breakfast brunch burrito it was great but this last time wasn’t the best. I ordered the Chipotle chicken wrap with grilled chicken, papas, and spicy garlic buffalo sauce. The amount of chicken to wrap ratio was completely off and my wrap was just drenched in sauce, the papas were absolutely perfect but my wrap wasn’t that good. I’d highly recommend the grilled chicken because it’s light and isn’t as oily but the amount they give you isn’t great.

Crave-able Chick’n, Ethical Business - Edit
This is the place you take a meat-loving friend to prove that vegan food can taste as good as / better than Chick-fil-A or Whataburger.
Read moreI absolutely crave the wraps (Chick’n Caesar is my fave), and every time I treat myself, my omnivore husband asks me to grab a cheeseburger & fries for him. It’s that good.
Added bonuses: they pay employees a fair wage, they use compostable packaging, and they offer a pay-what-you-can option for folks who are struggling. I also like that they take over existing brick-and-mortar stores (mmmbye, Jack-in-the-Box! 👋🏻) rather than adding to urban blight. Good stuff!
Pros: Drool-worthy food, Socially conscious, Environmentally sustainable

Easy, cheap fast food - Edit
Project Pollo is rapidly taking over texas and for good reason! $6 sandwiches and $2 fresh made fries and now they have milk shakes! Chicken is crispy and has a good non-spongy texture. Buns are toasted and buttered. They rotate their menu regularly with new sandwich options. My personal favorite is the Ranchito.

Fully vegan fast food is always a win in my book. My favorites have been the chicken sandwich, loaded fries, and Caesar salad wrap. Texture and taste is one of the closest taste a likes. They also do awesome deals, Tuesday is buy one get one free sandwiches, and there’s another deal on a Thursday that is slipping my mind.
