Lovely food - Edit
The restaurant offers three set menus of which only the least elaborate one (€20) could be made vegan. My boyfriend and I each ordered one of this and per person we got: miso soup, 3 vegetable tempuras, 10 sushis, 3 hot sushis (see pictures). It all tasted really good. However, the sushis weren't very diverse in their fillings, only in their toppings. I do believe the waitress said they can offer you more variety if you book ahead. All in all, the food was tasty but the amount was not quite enough to satisfy us.

Best vegan food on island - Edit
We stayed for 6 nights; this was the best food we ate here, better sushi than we can get in Manchester, UK. It was a very cool restaurant, it wasn't a sushi belt and you wouldn't be able to tell it served sushi were it not for a few Japanese symbols on the walls. Say you're vegan and they offer you a set menu of: miso soup, followed by tempura, and then a sushi platter. There is another sushi place in Funchal which was also good for vegans, but we thought this was just a little bit better. Would definitely recommend.

Best in Funchal - Edit
Funchal is full of mediocre eateries. This place is a delightful change: fresh and innovative Japanese food. Strawberry sushi! Well, that’s inventive fusion. Best of all it’s almost 50%.cheaper than other vegan-option restaurants. Watch out for the odd opening hours.

Definitely the most memorable sushi experience we've had. We're both Vegan and had the 25euro menu. We were stuffed leaving!
100% must visit if in Funchal.
Pros: several courses of delicious vegan goodness

Dinner set menu - Edit
Staff is helpful and friendly. The little restaurant deco is atmospheric with candles and lightings. I like the fusion Japanese/Portuguese sushi as the locals prefer, fruity variations. Else according to the staff, you can also ask for traditional Jap style of sushi.

Don't go here for lunch - Edit
My partner and I ate here for lunch one day. After reading the reviews we had been looking forward to eating here. However, when we got there we were dismayed to see there were only 2 vegetarian/vegan options available at lunch time. Don't be dismayed though! What we ate was delicious, and we saw upon exiting a pretty extensive evening menu. Our advice - if you like ramen this place is excellent for lunch. But if you want more choice go for an evening meal

The best vegan sushi I have ever had! - Edit
Visiting Portugal is tough for a vegan! I was so happy to have found this place. The owner Antouguia was so incredibly kind and helpful with making menu decisions. They have the best vegan sushi I have ever had! And even vegan miso soup and Goya! Amazing. Can't wait to come back. The atmosphere is very nice inside as well.

best vegan sushi ever! - Edit
We made a reservation for the evening and checked they could accommodate x2 vegans. Instead of feeling like pain in the *sses we were treated to a whole vegan set menu - like a multi course tasting menu - from gyoza to tempura, maki and more. So much care, attention and skill had gone into preparing it I could have hugged the chef at the end. It isn't super cheap but is 100% worth it - its the best vegan sushi we've had and an amazing find on an island that isn't really that vegan friendly! Wish we were staying another day so we could go back.

Best vegan sushi we ever had!!! - Edit
We are a couple from Germany who tried this fabulous restaurant in Funchal. I would love to give 5 stars, but the app allows max 4 stars for non-vegetarian restaurants.
Read moreThe food was really amazing!!!!! It was created with taste, it tasted amazing, the owner and the staff are really really nice! We really enjoyed it, it was our best vegan sushi experience.
We both took the vegan menu, which consisted of several plates, each served after one another - everytime a great surprise.
You should make a reservation. We definitely recommend this place and give 5 STARS :)

Gastronomical highlight of Madeira - Edit
A fabulous little non-veg but veg-friendly sushi bar in a funky upstairs room on the main drag in Funchal. The owner was super welcoming and they anticipated needs once we told them we were a vegetarian and a vegan. It was late in the lunch slot and so we had to wait a while for the excellent chefs to prepare the veggie menu freshly (all the offerings come as menus of a certain number of pieces). It was well worth the wait - exquisite presentation and attention to detail. Delicious flavours with lots of subtlety and a great fusion of local ingredients into the creative dishes. The owner told us they could do a more varied and more vegan offering given more time and that it would also be quicker. We used this as a quick stop for a late lunch - and got a wonderful surprise at how great it was. Given another chance would definitely call ahead and book for dinner and a blow out!

Cons: best to call ahead for full veggie readiness
