My favorite place - Edit
Food, service and quality are 11/10. Absolutely love this spot- small staff and they put so much love into their food. When busy it can be a little bit slow but to be expected for high caliber cuisine. My favorite rolls are the baked crab cake handroll and pirates of the crunchy. I wish they had more locations and were closer to me!

I highly recommend the potato scallop roll & the Saturday night fever roll - both of these rolls had amazing texture and so much flavor! The best miso soups I’ve ever had too!

Better than ever - Edit
Years back, I used to go to the old location in the mall and had some mixed experiences. Recently I had the omakase and it was incredible. Also, the staff couldn't have been better, extremely attentive and professional. Can't wait to return.

Very good but not great - Edit
I really enjoyed the red dragon and dynamite rolls. The red dragon had a nice crunch and texture but the dynamite rolls was a bit mushy for me… not enough texture and it was not so spicy as I would expect from “dynamite.” Very good but not great… and EXPENSIVE.

Entirely vegan and gluten free, awesome experience - Edit
Shojin is incredible! The space is really beautiful, with very intimate 2-seater tables in the back room perfect for a date night or special night out. Service was amazing, complete with hand towels before the first appetizer and great descriptions/explanations of every dish as they’re being brought out. The food is thoughtful and everything is vegan and gluten free and made in house. They also don’t use normal sugar.
Read moreWe tried the shojin green gyoza, lion’s mane karaage, Shoj-in-n-out hand roll, purple treasure 5.0, and the harvest curry ramen. Everything was delicious. The ramen was a great portion size. We got share plates and split it. The hand roll was a cool experience because it comes unrolled and you roll it yourself. The purple treasure 5.0 is an eggplant roll and the eggplant pieces on top were intense, way bigger than I was expecting and so juicy. Also a lot of the rolls have “torched at the table” written next to them on the menu. When they bring them to the table they fire it right in front of you and it’s really cool to see.
We tried the dessert that comes with miso cookies, black sesame ice cream, and matcha chocolate truffles- this combo of flavors was excellent and surprising. I had never tried miso cookies before and they were so good.
For drinks we tried the golden hour mind, which is a functional zero proof cocktail, and the orange yuzunade, which was my favorite and is like an orange juice mixed with lemonade and yuzu. I don’t drink alcohol so it was exciting to see so many thoughtful non-alcoholic drinks on the menu.
It was a little pricey, but the food was amazing and the vibes were so nice and the service was fantastic, plus you can really tell the menu is crafted very intentionally. I’d say it is worth the price and then some. I’d love to come back and try an omakase sometime, and if I lived in the area I’d come around every season to try the seasonal items.
Pros: Incredible food, Fully vegan and gluten free, Great service

Vegan Sushi - Edit
I loved this delicious cozy vegan restaurant. We had deep fried mushroom appetizers which didn't look too appealing but was tasty. We had sushi with eggplant that served came by and torched. This was surprisingly tasty. I forgot what my friend ordered. We also had ramen which was ok. Portion small on ramen and also very little broth. But it was very beautiful and tasty. Wait staff very attentive and nice. Good for a nice romantic dinner. Lights are dim in restaurant

This food is great. the menu has a bunch of creative dishes, and I think the Sushi is the most memorable. Both Ramen options were delicious. Good vibe, the restaurant seems like an awesome place for a date night.
Read moreCon, we took our kids and couldn't convince them to try the tasting menu. Since the whole table wasn't going to order it, my wife and I couldn't try it. Once tasting menus weren't an option, it got pretty expensive.

Creative, flavorful menu! - Edit
Wow this place was amazing - at a time when a lot of vegan sushi restaurants are closing we were delighted to find Shojin. The menu is full of incredible options from sushi rolls to bowls and plates. We tried the Shoj-In-n-Out hand roll, spicy crispy broccoli and shishuto peppers, and two rolls: Dynamite 2008 and Pirates of the Crunch. All amazing, we will definitely be going back!

Hands down my favorite sushi ever. I’d rather go out of my way and have an amazing meal here than get okay sushi elsewhere. The service is always top-notch, too. Shojin is just the best if you want a fancy, delicious meal.

Christmas Omakase - Edit
Japanese owned and great concept! We tried the Christmas omakase meal which was great but not mind blowing. For $88 per person not sure if it was worth it but good experience for sure. Their desserts and drinks are good though. Would go back to try their other specials again though. Also the restaurant is too dark #Veganuary

Best vegan sushi - Edit
I went to this restaurant when they had one in downtown LA and it is still one of my favorite spots to take vegans and non vegans a like. I need to go visit their Culver’s city location because the food is and service is always top tier.

Best dinner experience ever. Ever. - Edit
We came here for the omakase, and opted for the 14 item dinner. And we were blown away. This is hands down one of our top three dinner experiences anywhere, and one of those 3 was in Kyoto. We felt like we were in Japan. The food is divine. Absolutely stunning. Incredible. The truffle miso soup is literally what dreams are made of. Everything was beautiful. But also the service was outstanding, the best service I have ever had anywhere, and I myself have worked in fine dining in the past for years. The service was intentional, warm, welcoming, delightful and honestly perfect. Can we also talk about the care and thought that went into everything? The dishware was gorgeous, every single plate was different. They gave us warmed towels to wipe our hands down before eating the hand rolls. The sake selection was stellar. And my goodness the bathroom was amazing!! If I lived close by I would go here all of the time but sadly I don’t.☹️ So don’t miss out on the chance to come here. It’s a must. An absolute must! I wish I could go back but I definitely will the next time I’m in LA. What a special gem of a place. Thank you Shojin for the most memorable experience ever, you do beautiful magical things! And thank you for being all vegan, I couldn’t believe all vegan omakase exists and it was stunning. Just wow. Wow wow wow. Arigato gozaimasu🩷

Unbelievably Delicious - Edit
Celebrated my birthday with the amazing omakase menu. Everything was outstanding. As a vegan, I'm thrilled to be able to still enjoy sushi, especially sushi that tastes this good! The ambiance is lovely with the dim lights, music, and artwork. The staff are also incredible and extremely attentive, and go above and beyond to make your experience top notch. This was our first visit, but certainly not the last! Thank you, Shojin, for helping me celebrate my birthday!
