Authentic Japanese restaurant experience - Edit

This was a really interesting restaurant to visit - it’s located in Gion in the old district of Kyoto which gives additional atmosphere to start with. The wait staff are also in traditional dress and you take off shoes as you go in. Although not a vegan/vegetarian place specifically it does have a separate vegetarian menu with vegan options flagged. We really enjoyed the opportunity to experience traditional Japanese dining as most vegan places we’ve found so far have tended to be modern cafes or restaurants. Food was good - moderately priced. We’ve paid much more for less at other vegan/veg places around Japan. Definitely worth a visit for the experience. You do need to book as it is very small and popular!

Pros: Traditional dining experience , Good veg/vegan options , Good ethos around using local produce

Cons: Not exclusively veg/vegan

Delicious! - Edit

You can book online through facebook messenger! The chef has many years experience cooking vegan food (advised by the owner) and they introduced vegan and veggie options at friends with different diets can eat together! They staff were lovely and taught us things about samurais and their lifestyle & as they spoke English (the guy with us grew up in America as his father worked there for a time) you can be 100% sure they have understood your dietary requests!

The food was absolutely divine and presented beautifully as were the drinks and we had a wonderful time there!

They also recommended a place to get vegan ice-cream during the day which was very thoughtful and kind!

Pros: Delicious food! , Attentive and thoughtful staff, English speaking

Touristic but nice - Edit

Really nice little restaurant. Limited seating (I saw 5/6 tables max) and very much targeted at tourists but that said, very well executed. All staff spoke good English, really nicely decorated and in a nice neighbourhood. Food was clearly marked as vegetarian and I very much enjoyed the vegetables (tofu) burger.
