Fantastic Vegan AND Gluten-Free Spot - Edit
So rare to find a place that's accommodating to vegans and gluten-free people both! Delicious baked goods - we enjoyed the chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon rolls, and bagels. Prepared food was also top notch, but the highlight was the buffalo tofu wrap. All the employees were very delightful and even gave us several free items as we left. Will NEED to go back if we ever are in the area again!

Tons of options and delicious baked goods. The falafel plate was incredible. I appreciated that the homemade falafel was not fried. Everything was nice and fresh, friendly staff. Highly recommend.

Rainy Day Wow! - Edit
I ate the veggies burger with cheddar. This is a place where it is okay to sit and eat and enjoy. The veggie burger tasted like a burger created from thought, chef skills and love. Each bite, eat flavor complimented the other. Cheddar cheese is a must have, made in house, smooth flavor. Coleslaw is rarely my favorite food choice, this coleslaw has flavor. I could taste each ingredient. I finished it. I recommend when you come here to eat make sure you have time to enjoy the food. If you order take out same thing, take time to enjoy everything they put in their food. I haven’t tried the deserts so for now a 4.5 out of five. I have to try the desserts.

Delicious and very friendly staff - Edit
We aren’t gluten free but really enjoyed the breakfast and pastries here. The seasonal breakfast platter was a highlight - it had everything you could want in a breakfast plate ("egg ", pancakes, potatoes, and fresh fruit). Coffee was weak. My dad is obsessed with the cinnamon buns - go early before they sell out. Lots of art and crafts for sale and live music on Saturdays.

I highly recommend this excellent, very pleasant cafe! There’s a variety of delicious, vegan, GF options to choose from (including soy free options as well). The service is attentive and very helpful without being at all intrusive. The owner even stopped by to say hi and see if I had questions about the menu.
Read moreI enjoyed the raw vegetable Buddha bowl with tofu and rice noodles. It was clean and fresh, with all sauces on the side so I could add the amounts I prefer. It was perfect for a tasty, nourishing lunch after a long walk in the sun at Hammonasset Beach.

So good - Edit
So many options, we got breakfast items that were stellar. The gluten free wrap was honestly spectacular. I dont even know how they do it, but as a gluten lover, it was actually delicious, I didnt miss the gluten at all. A big surprise to us.
Read morePancakes had a bit of a "gluten would make this better" vibe but honestly I was pleasantly surprised with how good they were.
Similarly, we tried a brownie maybe felt more like a flourless chocolate cake but was delicious.
Would absolutely eat here anytime I am nearby.

Sooooo good! - Edit
If you haven’t been here yet - put it on your list right now😄 We had the most wonderful lunch here after a long hike at Chatfield Hollow. So many tasty things to choose from, it was tough to decide. We eventually settled on the house made pump-fu in a wrap (also house made & to die for) and the buffalo tofu wrap. Both were deliciously fresh and tasty and came with fresh pineapple wedges, slaw and a little cup of yummy pickles a the side. I hope you love it as much as we did, we cannot wait to go back! I didn’t even mention the cookies - delicate melt in your mouth peanut butter or the chocolate drizzled samoas. I couldn’t pick a favorite.

Outrageously good - Edit
Shayna B’s By The Sea makes a phenomenal pizza. My family and I tried a few different kinds, and all were delicious and had that authentic Connecticut pizza flavor that can be difficult to quantify. The desserts were also rich and decadent, I didn’t even think to get a photo because everything was so appealing we just dug right in. If you’re in the area, definitely check out this shoreline gem! #Veganuary

Nourishing, wholesome, flavorful all-vegan entrées (that just happen to be gluten-free) - Edit
I have been an acolyte of Shayna B since its vagabond origin in meals-to-go and baked goods delivered to Fiddleheads Food Coop, Willimantic Food Coop, and Stonington’s year-round farmers market. When it made a home in a sit-down café in Old Saybrook, I rejoiced. Even better, in 2021 it moved into larger quarters with a veranda that offers sheltered outdoor dining overlooking a wetlands. Picnic time!
Read moreI had long relished those wholesome and flavorful grab-and-go entrées. While it still sells readymade entrées to-go, now it serves more selections that are not easily transportable. The soups are always excellent and underpriced. Smoothies and fresh juices are now served. No mock meats here, fake foods that make a mockery of veganism. Among the entrées, Shayna B excels in its salad bowls and pizzas. I don't give a hoot about gluten, and find most gluten-free bakery items bland and chalky, yet even its brown-rice-flour pizza crust tastes good.
I mourn the recent deletion from its menu of its outstanding Mac n’ Cheeze. (Life is tough!) As a replacement, I lust for the Hawaiian Pizza, made not with highly acidic tomato sauce, but with freshly baked cherry tomatoes among its luscious veggie toppings. Best of all is its sunflower-seed cheeze that excels any fake cheese in the markets. But recently I have succumbed to a new object of my desire, the Nourish Bowl, comprised of roasted vegetables.
Almost all dietary regimens and allergies and snobberies can be accommodated here. My food sensitivity is to all alliums (garlic, onions, et al), causing me indigestion, which in turn causes, oh never mind. I’m thankful that in most dishes except the soups the alliums can be omitted. If you abide by yogic dietary doctrines, you’ll be thankful too.
Most so-called natural foods restaurant desserts are made of white flour and white sugar. Such white plagues belong to the dustbin of nutrition. But even as a nutritional elitist, I do indulge in maple syrup or coconut sugar. At Shayna’s, one daily dessert is sweetened only with those, so worthy of indulgence. Sweet!
Note that its small outdoor signage is inconspicuous, so the café is easy to pass by. It shares its parking lot with a boat showroom, so look for drydocked dreamboats.

Drove down to the coast and found Shayna B’s, a herbivore dream!😄There’s plenty of delicious bowls, salads, pizzas, and breakfast sandwiches to choose from, all powered by plants! The Nourish Bowl and the homemade lemonade was the perfect lunch for a beautiful summer day on the coast! Will definitely be back!

Tasty but slow service - Edit
They were out of our first two choices, so ended up getting a grain bowl. It tasted good but was mostly lettuce and a much smaller portion than I was anticipating. I was still hungry afterward. It also took quite a long time to come out, which was surprising considering there weren't really any other people there.

So Glad We Stopped By Shayna B’s! - Edit
We originally came here for some GF/Vegan sweets, but after seeing the menu, we decided to get brunch as well. Everything we had was delicious. We ordered the Moroccan Stew, Buffalo Cauli Salad, Grilled Cheeze Slider, & a veggie burger. We had the tiramisu & key lime Cheezecake & banana bread as well. We ordered the rest of their desserts to go. Everything was fresh , made to order & absolutely delicious. I bought an opalite necklace & a soy based candle from various vendors they have displaced throughout the shop.

Non-vegan partner loved the Buffalo cauliflower wrap special. He was debating between that and the chicken salad sandwich and they very generously brought him a sample of that to try too! The nourish bowl was wonderful- loaded with roasted cauliflower, broccoli, mushrooms, beets, sweet potatoes, spinach, asparagus, avocado, pumpkin seed, quinoa, and salad. We did not indulge in any baked items, but enjoyed admiring them. This is an order at the counter type of place, and a very cozy spot with kind owners.

Large space with sit-down tables. I had the Hawaiian pizza (see pic). It was delicious. The orange parts are made from sunflower seed oil. Great service by the chef. I also took home a smoothie and a few bakery items including the cinnamon roll which is gluten and dairy free. #Veganuary

WOW!! - Edit
We took a day trip to the beach and found this spot on the Happy Cow app. The breakfast sandwich on a homemade everything bagel was SO good! My husband and I shared a few of the baked goods, too. The raspberry lemon scone was probably the best scone I’ve ever had- flakey and so full of flavor. The peppermint donut had the perfect texture and a rich chocolate flavor with just the right amount of peppermint. The rest of the treats will be enjoyed at home… assuming they last the entire car ride! They even had cookies for our puppy! We can’t wait to return.
