Good italian american vegan food - Edit

This place is legitimately good. Not just "good for vegan good", but actually good. My wife is vegetarian and is a pizza/cheese fiend. She also has a relatively picky palate and doesn't like a lot of vegetables and greens in her food. Despite that, she loved the pesto sunflower pizza. I tried a slice and it was very good. I had the calzone, which was also very good. The food is very high quality, I was impressed at how well they made all the ingredients work together. Will definitely be going back. The bread/crust was very tasty and had a good chew.

The sole downside is, like lots of vegan places, is that the portions versus price is a little high.

Their desserts are also good.

Oh, and their signage is bad. You will easily drive by the restaurant a couple times. it's the unmarked 2 story green (i think it was green...) building with the dirt parking lot. Don't be fooled by the outside, it's sincerely good food.

Pros: Easily some of the best vegan food I've had., Staff (and owner?) were all very friendly., They seem to try to reduce their landfill waste

Cons: Like most vegan specialty places, cost is higher., No gluten options - it's all GF only., The seats have no back support.

simply the best - Edit

My family and I ordered takeaway while I was visiting the area, and my goodness was the quality, service, and taste the best things ever! Collectively, we ordered the mac and cheese, kale lasagna, stuffed avocado special, and cookies, scones, muffins, cinnamon rolls, and biscotti for the following days. Everything was wholesome, delicious, and unique, and quite obviously lovingly prepared. The home-made sour cream for the avocado special was especially impressive, though every single thing was delicious and top-quality. What an absolute treat to have all vegan and gluten free gourmet in Connecticut! This place is very special.

Pros: all GF and vegan, everything is incredible, eco-conscious products and sources

Cons: I don't live closer

100% Vegan and GF...what a nice surprise! - Edit

This cafe is absolutely amazing! The meals are excellent...yummy fresh ingredients all the way, and I was stunned by the baked goods, so much so that I grab a bunch to go. Try the Iced Dark Chocolate Cake (in the shape of a mini bunt cake)....it looks dry at first glance, but nothing could be further from the truth. It's rich yet somehow light at the same time (doesn't make sense, I know). The scone was velvety, and the coconut chocolate macaroons were just right for little sweetness after stuffing yourself on the mains. The seating area only offers stools, which can get uncomfortable fast, however the stools and tables are certainly lovely to look at. Regardless, I definitely hope to return!

Our meals were full of flavor and the service was amazing. We felt so welcome. I can't wait to come back and try more!

A quaint place on the shoreline. The food is fresh and delicious. The baguettes are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Desserts are are moist and amazing. My daughter loves the “Mac and cheez”. I tried the polenta with mushrooms yesterday...unbelievabley good. Welcoming staff and the owner, Christine, is friendly and accommodating.

Nourishing, wholesome, flavorful and all-vegan meals - Edit

You may already know of Shayna B’s from its deliveries of bakery goods and meals-to-go for the previous six or so years to Fiddleheads Food Coop and Willimantic Food Coop, as well as at Stonington's summer and winter farmers markets. Great that it now has a storefront café, and a beautifully designed interior at that. While its interior is cozy, when weather permits you might consider take-out and picnicking in the park across the street.

I cannot speak about the gluten-free bakery goods because, with the exception of a bread loaf, all are dessert fare and I do not find pastry desserts tempting. (When it comes to dessert fare, am a mango and melon kinda guy.) Also, gluten is of no concern to me. But I have long been a fan of the meals-to-go, always nourishing, wholesome, and flavorful. They continue to be, plus now in the café are served new menu items that were not suitable for take-out.

As long as you are in Old Saybrook, check out Foodworks for its juice bar and specialty vegan and raw foods items.

Pros: Nourishing, wholesome, and flavorful meals-to-go, Parking is ample and easy

Amazing & Delicious! - Edit

Finally, a delicious and reasonably priced vegan place on the shoreline! Everything we tried was great; the cashew mac and cheese, calzone, cinnamon carrot cake, and apple crisp. Everything tasted so fresh and you could tell it was all homemade. I love how you can choose a meal based on what you're willing to spend, and I feel like the prices were reasonable for what you got. I will definitely be visiting Shayna B's regularly!

Yummy little spot! - Edit

We were shocked to learn Shayna B's just opened because it was the perfect little spot to eat for our trip up north; it was just too good to be true! Ordered the Calzone, Spinach Pesto Pizza and the special, which was a Black Bean Borrito Bowl. My mom, 13 year old brother and I all loved our meals and not to mention loved all the desserts as well! Overall definitely check this place out (can definitely taste the love and effort in every bite!)!!

Pros: Gluten-Free, Friendly Staff, Nice Vibe

Cons: none

We didn’t know what to try so we shared the pesto pizza and the calzone...both were incredible! We had the chocolate cookie, cinnamon cardamom cookie and fig cookie and will definitely be back for more. I am so impressed with everything and you can tell how much love goes into the food. We are so happy to have a place like this and will be back soon!
